i might order the snow foam from the uk!!!

Hey guys,

I once had a soap sent to me some years back to test out for a company. I used it and while it cleaned and performed well it had hardly any suds to it so I checked in with the manufacturer and told them my findings and concerns. The chemist replied back to me that bubbles and suds is a misconception to cleaning and done more for public "peace of mind" but that it's the surfactants in the soap that is the cleaning and emulsifying agent, not suds, foam or bubbles.

If you used a soap which didn't suds up many may think, "Hey, this soap sucks....it doesn't even have any suds...how can it clean?!" Well I carry a hand soap that doesn't suds up but cleans very effectively and as already noted there are several "No Rinse" type products that clean very well but do not suds up...or at least very little. So a car shampoo can clean very well, have great lubrication and yet not have large amounts of suds.

Suds though are cool and it is thought that the foam acts as a cushion or lubrication of sorts and there may be some truth to that but as I am told suds are more of a by-product from the main ingredients which do the actual work of cleaning.

I'm not against the foam gun but having used one I don't see any advantage to using one and to me it seems to waste more soap. I also grasp that people claim it emulsifies the dirt so it makes for easy cleaning and less chance of marring but here again I pre-soak a car with water which (because water is a solvent) starts the emulsifying process. I then wash the car and I have to say that I get next to zero marring on cars when washed carefully without the use of a foam gun.

For an enthusiast the foam gun I'm sure is cool but for a pro I only see it as time consuming. This though is only my personal opinion.

Tom here's your reply from Autobrite.

It will be quite expensive actually approx £30, to be honest we don't ship over 2 kilos in weight to the USA as they never get there and very expensive indeed. DHL will be approx £50..lol

ok thanks for that

I would agree as long as you are rinsing before or after the dwell (if that is what you meant). Its also has to do with what makes you feel better. lol
ok heres my method of winter cleaning . when the trucks really dirty from salt from the roads ect i will do the following
spray down the entire truck with foam . this is before i rinse or anything. let the foam sit for oprox 3 to 5 minutes then rinse.
after that spray one more time with foam then proceed to wash with the 2 bucket method rinsing my brush after each section. now this might be an extreme method of washing but if you have seen my truck after driving around in the snow it turns white from caked on salt. its nasty. so anyway to reduce swirl marks this is what i do . now in the summer monthes i dont foam 2 times like i do in the winter.

Tom have you looked into orginising your own courier, might be cheaper??
I will look into the cost for me to send it have you got Pay Pal?

By letting the soap stay on the car def helps regarding swirls/washing...I always presoak the car with soap/foam, let it sit and then hp-wash the car. Just for fun i hosed the car down without using soap (lance/gun), i let it dry again, and voila lots of dirt left, not big chunks of dirt, but i fine hazy layer on the paint that is imo enough to mar the paint when washing, with the foam on the car i probably could just hp-wash it after and then dry it, i did that today with the SF road grime destroyer slightly diluted (10% water) hp-washed, and wiped the car down with the Guzzler, and the guzzler didnt get much dirty..(normaly i dont do just that, but this car was getting a full detail)

So to say the foam gun/lance dont have a function are wrong imo...i use it all the time and have barly/no swirls, my father never use that and get tonns of swirls on the car..

i have to agree that the foam helps out a ton....if anything it helps increase the dwell time of the products ability to sit on dirt and grime and emulsify it....and besides...even if it does nothing...it looks cool!!!!
