I think you can finish with M105...

That's a great chart. Like I said before, are you getting the best possible finish with just 105? My answer would be no. It would look better with 106FA or 85RD after, or even both after.
Lou you and Jason are right on the money.:dblthumb2:

I did recently finish a black truck with M205 & and orange pad. The customer only wanted a one step, so I tried to get most of the swirls out. The truck is very shiny, but not as shiny as it could have been. I told the my client this and I said next time we can go less aggressive and get a better shine. I don't think the average person can tell much of a difference, but we can. The more you do something the more you start to notice the subtle differences.

I agree dad, they got it right.

Plus the pictures that Z-oh-6 posted look very dull, no pop at all with the silver.

Haha, I was going to mention that I could hear Dana 'rocketing' towards this thread to interject.

Z-oh-6: it is always a matter of searching for the last few % of perfect correction that is the hardest choice to make; it looks great now but it is up to the person correcting as to whether they should pursue that last bit of potential which takes additional time for arguably less of a visual improvement compared to the heavy defect removal previously. Plus, metallic silver can hide a lot of sins. ;)

Mark,

Did you IPA wipedown after the 105? I stopped at 105 on my white paint. In the garage it did looked finished. Even after IPA. Once I got it put in the sun, it just didnt look shiny. back to the garage with 205/white followed by 205/gray and perfect. If a darker color I would have gone on with PO85RD after that.

Regardless, the paint looks very flat.
Look at the edge of one of the pictures, it looks as if it's dark outside, even though the sun was shining. The iphone camera does not pic up lighting well at all. If you think that has zero effect on the outcome of the picture, you're wrong. I'm not saying the paint looked brilliant, but it's sure as heck not "very flat".

I know this is an old thread, I hope bumping them is not frowned upon around here.

I've been detailing my black 350z with an orange ccs pad and 105 and it finishes perfectly from what I can tell. I do go over it with PO85rd and a black ccs pad, but I'm not sure it really helps it that much, maybe a smither.

This is a very interesting thread to me. :)

No frowning here... I have threads on multiple forums that date back to 2002 and I certainly never mind if someone brings one of them back to life for continued discussion.

If it looks good in your eyes that's all that matters. M105 is a real game changer due to it's abrasive technology, hats off to the chemists at Meguiar's and Jason Rose for their passion for perfection.

I hear what you're saying about if it "looks good in my eyes". I just wondered what others' experiences were. I'm using a 3401 too, just to throw that out there.

Oddly enough I have used the exact same combo on this car and had it finish with a haze. I've also been one the guys who didn't not like 105 at all in the beginning as I found it had zero working time and it was reallllly hard to remove and dried product.

I don't know what changed, but I haven't experienced any of this lately. Maybe it has to do with the cooler paint temperatures (it's been around 60-70 degrees here lately). But it's come off easily and I've had great results overall with it.

One of my biggest issues as a noob was not enough pressure I don't think.... I was kind of afraid of the Flex. Now I give it some firm pressure, work it over the section and most of it dusts off, at which point I turn the Flex off and wipe down/inspect.

I will say that I've read a lot on these forums and Mike's book since the last time I used it, but as far as what's changed regarding my technique, I can't quite remember.

I use more pressure now. I prime the pad properly now(by spreading it out with my fingers). And I'm more sure to use slow arm speed and 50% overlapping passes (this is important IME).

:)
