I was at Chemical Guys today, saw something interesting..

Why wouldn't it be OK to post it? If CG is creating a system similar or identical to the Meg's system (or is Meg's actually just going to be rebranding a CG product?!) that's news worth sharing!

Besides, I'm betting they didn't make you sign an embargo agreement like Meg's did with everyone who has come in contact with their "revolutionary" hush-hush secret.

As long as CG doesn't over-hype their product to the point where it's inevitably going to disappoint people (anticlimactic reality after all the fantasy being built) like Meg's has done, they'll do well with it!

Just another Solo System incident.

picked up a few products. While I was browsing, I noticed thin white 5.5" microfiber "discs". I immediately thought of the new Meg's DA MF discs. I should have took a picture! I asked about them. One is for compounding and one is for finishing. Hmmmmmmmmm??????

Hope it was OK to post this?

Mark,
I have one of both. Only used the Compound pad. Worked fine but I broke the Sprayer head on the Opt Hyper Spray Compound so I couldn't use it more than a couple of panels. No directions so I just played. Don't want to use too much pressure and cuts pretty well on our 08 metallic platinbronz BMW.

I am not holding my breath yet. Just another tool and the surbufs arrived a few days later.

Thanks, Kurt. I'm just wondering how these MF discs compare to the hyped MF discs coming out from Meguiars? I have a feeling they're gonna be close to the same thing. Anyhow, I'm buying more surbufs soon.

Mark, That's what I was thinking when I picked them up.

Yes please. ;)

Here you go. Do these look like the Megs MF pads?

5.5" polish on the left and compound on the right. Velcro side of polish is black and velcro side of compound is white for identification. I only used the compound pad with Opt Hyper Spray Compound so there is a tinge of blue to it.

How do you clean these pads on the fly?

I used a stiff foam brush plus a terry towel. I only did a small section of the hood before I broke the compound sprayer head. It was a really weird day but the pad seemed to work ok. I did find that I didn't want or need to press as hard as a foam pad.

How thick are the Kurt? I don't see them listed on CG site yet....are they a released product?

They are not on the site, but up for sale at chemical guys :dunno: Id say they're about 1/8"(maybe a tad more). Pretty thin.

Let's see. It depends on where you measure Kurt. I think Kurt is thickest at the chest. :)

Oh, sorry. You meant the pads. They are fairly thin, around 3/8 of an inch with the MF hairs sticking out. You have a velcro layer, what appears to be a neoprene layer and the white MF layer. I'm not looking at them but I think one pad has one more thin layer.

Did they say if they had dedicated liquids to go with these pads or are they just a new pad offering?

One is for compounding the other is for finishing. No dedicated compound or finishing polish for either. I'd still guess they're very similar to the Meg's MF discs.

Judging from the pics and description they appear similar to the pic on MOL, but if they are not paired with dedicated liquids, one has to wonder how much development really went into making them. Seems more like, hey Megs is coming out with something new so lets scramble and glue a few MF towels to a piece of foam and release it. :D

Just my $.02

I'll have to order some when they are offered on their web site and compare. :props:

Valid point. :props:

The guy at CG told me that they had been playing with them and he personally had really good luck with the CG polishes and compounds he was using. I thought that I had a very beat up Sebring to play with so I picked up the pads to try. Have not gotten the car yet.

I would assume they would recommend the pads with their products, but doubt they're dedicated like the Meg's system. That chick and the young dude in the showroom, well, I think I know more than them! lol
