You need to oil the felt ring. Don't use it again until you oil it.
Where is the felt ring and what oil do you use?

Questions for all you guys moving from a PC to a flex... Which model flex do you recommend moving into (3401,3403, etc...) and dose the Porter Cable pads work with the flex? Does the flex have the same velcro backing plate?
Packing peanuts suck! In my haste and anticipation to dig into the box to retrieve goodies I always have 'em all over the place. Cleanup is elusive and they're impossible to pour into the trash bin without spillin' 'em all over the place. They end up stuck to arms, legs, shoes and everything else and you end up picking at 'em individually. Dunno how environmentally friendly they are either...
I prefer the inflated-pillow packaging. I always save some for use when I have to send something. Handy to dispose of too... just give 'em a poke, deflate 'em and you're done.
Packing peanuts are evil!

If I were you, I would call AG, if this is were you got your Flex and ask for clarification on oiling the felt ring. Or PM Killr, he had some problems and would know.I've had a flex 3401 for a couple of months now and have to use it, however I read that you do not need to oil anything. The need to oil any parts of the flex were resolved with the newer built models.
Does this make any sense to anyone? I dont know how true this imformation is, i dont recall where i read it either.
