Polisher (DA or Rotary), which would it be and why? List what you own or have had the chance to use.

My collection consists of the following: PCXP, Flex 3401, Makita 9227c, Flex PE-14-2, & an older Black & Decker rotary.

If I had to give them all up except for one, the winner would be the Flex 3401. Powerful, well made, and can easily turn out swirl free results. :buffing:
 
Flex 3401. Having the oscillation of DA(don't have to worry about holograms) WITH forced rotation is awesome!
 
If I could only have one, that is easy: Flex 3401. Most versatile polisher I have, no worries about how it will finish out or holograms. I can also apply and remove LSPs with it.

I own a PC, Flex 3401, and Flex PE14 Rotary.
 
Yeah the 3401 is definitely nice. With that said, I have never tried a rotary, but from what I have seen, alot of guys finish down with a DA after rotary, so I will jump on the bandwagon. Flex 3401.
 
Rotary cuz it can correct faster and finish better. Although I'm not saying that would happen today, cuz a rotary in my hands and being a total noob, my cars would be hologram city. Of course with practice, I know in time I would be able to make the above statement true.
 
I'd keep my PC. It will tackle all but the worst swirls and RIDS, and it will finish down perfectly every time no matter how soft or sticky the paint is. Also you can't apply glazes, waxes, paint cleaners, or sealants with a rotary.

As for the Flex DA I don't care for it at all. I would rather work by hand than with a Flex DA

I have the same, with the addition of a Griots new style 3" DA
and I agree with you. The Flex forced rotation DA # 3401 is generally my go to machine these days.
 
Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher - Can cut with Surbuf, compound with foam/M105 or micro fiber/D300, polish with it, use it to apply wax/sealants, and you can also damp sand with it.

The force rotation of the flex is terrible IMO. It pulls the machine around like a rotary, but doesn't offer much more power than a traditional DA. The cost is outrageous, there are only two backing plates available for it, it can't be used to damp/wet sand, it doesn't play nice with surbuf pads or the Megs mf system, but at the same time doesn't offer the power with wool that a rotary does.

I'm not saying it's a bad machine, in fact it's a great machine as far as build quality goes. But, if you could only have one machine, for me it wouldn't be the Flex. The Flex DA wouldn't even be on my list if I could have 3 machines.

I am pretty sure a thread asking for pure personal preference does not have a 'winner'. You may have people who's viewpoints agree with your own personal preference, but that's about it.

Is it really an opinion if it's right? LOL jk. I think Mr. Dubs was merely making a joke since I made a point he agreed with.
