Incredibly Cheap Finds

I'm fairly frustrated today. I recently purchased my steamer from Harbor Freight. I have tracked the price of that thing and other than the standard 20/25% off coupon, it's never been on sale. I have seen some Inside Track Club coupons, but they were not better than the 25 off. So, last week, I paid 119-25%+7% tax, $95.50...

Today, I look for the manual online to see it's max amps for an extension cord, and it's $99.99! so, it would have been $99-25%+7%, 80.25 out the door.

Yes, it's only $14.50, but that's 15% of the cost of the item. Frustrated!

But if you don't have one, this is the cheapest you'll see it. Get it.

If you're referring to the McCulloch steamer I just bought it from HF for $87.00 shipped with the 25% off coupon. You're not going to find it much cheaper anywhere brand new. Can't wait to start using it.

If you found that HF has it on sale, and you have your receipt still, they might honor the sale price for you. I got an air compressor on sale for 59.99, then 4 days later got a coupon for the same one for 49.99, and they gave me the $10 back plus tax, and I bought a heat gun from them using that money. all together, I got $.02 back and a free heat gun.

Yep... That's the one. It's pretty good that's for sure. It does have its limitations, and I did expect the world when I first got it, but I am a big fan. Got some stains out of carpets that Folex didnt, cleans cup-holders and leather like a boss, and my wife used it the other day for de-wrinkling some dress too...

I'm using it on an engine tomorrow...

Yeah they will. Hell, even the big boys (L, HD) will do that. They know if they don't, you're just going to box it up, return it, then buy it again at the discounted price. Then they're out the difference and the original unit.

And that, gentlemen, is how you keep the woman off your back about your detailing purchases.

Haha yep.

She brings out a rug or two every time I've got the pressure washer out or if I'm extracting floor mats!

I remember when maintaining her interior was enough. Now it's just expected.

Back on topic, I see from a target clearance thread that prices drop every two weeks, and the white wax is 50% off. 70 is next.

I stop by the car care area every time I'm there. They don't have a huge selection, but man they have great deals sometimes. I wish I had known about this thread at the end of the season last year. I bought 4 Meg's clay bar kits at $8 a pop! Also got some Meg's QD and QW, Stoner window cleaner, Rain-x all for super cheap. And the best find: a 100 foot Neverkink hose for $11.

So I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I built my own pad washer. It functions just like the Grit Guard Universal Pad Washer, except I don't have that tiny, dome shaped grid extension.

Full disclosure, I got the idea from a thread I stumbled across on another website, but the guy didn't provide many measurements or a thorough parts list. I had to recreate it mainly from his pictures.

The thread has a lot of views but only 27 replies, and I haven't seen the particular DIY pad washer posted anywhere else (believe me, I've looked), so it's probably not getting the attention it deserves. I feel like I should spread the word, help out the guy that came up with it and anyone who wants to recreate it.

If you guys are interested I can put together instructions. I'll have to take mine apart to take some measurements and pictures (really regretting not documenting the build as I went), and then I'll post it here. I know it's technically a DIY, not a "deal," but it sure beats spending $130 on a bunch of molded plastic. If I was going to do that, I'd get the Lego Millennium Falcon. :xyxthumbs:

And I'll of course source the original thread; this guy deserves a ton of credit.

:buffing:

If you could just go ahead and send those directions over to me, that'd be great, yeahhhh (Bill Lumberg Voice)

Ah, ah, I almost forgot... I'm also going to need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday, too. We, uhhh, lost some people this week and we sorta need to play catch-up. Mmmmmkay? Thaaaaaanks.

To those of you that were interested in the pad washer, where should I post the instructions
  • Detailer's Library - How to Articles
  • Detailer's Library - Tricks, Tips and Techniques
  • Buffers and Polishers - Auto Detailing Tools and Accessories
  • Buffers and Polishers - Questions about the Porter Cable 7424XP, 7424, 7336, Griot's and Meguiar's Dual Action Polishers
  • The Water Cooler - Off-Topic
  • somewhere else entirely...

I just don't want the thread to get hijacked by people flaming me for posting in the wrong section.

Feed back please Thanks guys.

Mods will move it to the appropriate sub topics. That's what they're supposed to do

someone mentioned big lots having 80% off clearance, reminded me to stop by.

It was 75% at the two nearest me, but I found 4 aquapels and 5 of the purple clay magic kits for $1.25 each. The best deal was the wiper blades though. It was $1.25 each for some pretty decent blades. Grabbed a few of those.

Also, Lowes dropped the prices nearest me from 13.48 to 10.49 on the NXT 2.0 kits. I know someone was getting them for $7.50 but this is pretty widely available at $11...

The Wal-Mart's in the Charlotte, NC area have a price cut on Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax & Quik Detailer for $8 (down from $9.99). Pretty good deal if you ask me :-)

I went to 2 different Big Lots and I couldn't find the aquapels or the purple clay.

Hey Guys - New here and just had a quick question.

Im looking to pickup a grit guard on amazon, and seem to notice a recurring theme in this post about the grit guards not fitting properly in a bunch of the 5 gallon buckets people pickup

Does anyone know what bucket the grit guards DO fit in? I went to walmart last night and saw a blue one with the walmart logo and a white one, but i heard that they dont fit properly in the walmart ones, then someone said the ones at advance auto they dont fit in properly either... wheres the GOOD ones at?
