input on these scratches

might pickup this hood for my mustang, matching paint, however he says these scratches aren't through the clear, how well do you think I can polish these out based on this picture?

Could you catch your finger on them? If so they might be too deep to remove them. They don't look too pretty.
 
Those look pretty deep to me. Especially that jagged looking one. I don't know for sure. But, if I HAD to make a snap judgment based on the photo...I'd say there's no way you're getting those out.

But, photos can be very deceiving.
 
my feeling is they aren't coming out, but think I could get them sort of unnoticeable?

They look pretty deep to me as well, and from what I can see from the pic the rest the hood seems covered in road chips. If you can steal the hood, maybe it is worth the fixing!
 
i do have the dr colorchip i'm going to use after a full correction on this bad boy in a few spots, idk im just hoping the camera made it look worse than it really is..
 
You can definitely improve the overall damage. Some of those scratches look repairable. But, there's a good 2 or 3 of them that look bad.

I'd fill them in with touch up paint, tape it off, and sand down to blend. It will not be noticeable at a short distance. Up close, obviously you'll see the repair.
 
Whats wrong with the hood that is currently on your car?
 
They sure don't look correctable to me from the pic. The thing is, even if you were able to...at what cost? How much clear would have to be ground away to level that area? Not worth it IMO. You'd be better to touch it up with the Dr Chip or touch up from a paint supply shop and level it chemically or by wet sanding. If you wet sand, borrow a paint thickness gauge, especially on paint for which you don't know the history. My $.02

When you get the hood wet it down. Do the scratches disappear? If yes lightly wet sand the hood and add some clearcoat. Problem solved
