Installing speed govenor on car?

I've seen this on the news and heard about it before, with parents installing them to keep their teen drivers from speeding. I just searched for over an hour and cannot find anything, anybody have a website they can point me too? Want to get one for somebody lol.

woah, really? i know they have ones that monitor speed, hard stops, etc.

My parents lol? My whole family is involved in boat/auto racing, can you say speed freaks lol. This is for my biz partner, seriously, keeps getting speeding tickets lol. And the one tonight was way, way, way over I-95 limit. Worried, I know how to control a car and have the racing experience, I know he doesn't and don't want to see anything happen to him.

This kind of reminded me of my handheld flash tuner I use on my Mustang's CPU. I can flash a new "tune" to the car when I take it to a dealer or some shop and can program the car to not exceed a certain amount of RPMs, such as 4K. I've never used it, but many do.

You can set it, I remember the show on the news, like you can have it set for really any speed like 75 and it won't go above that.

My sister wants to get him one for his birthday lol.

like, in your RL, you're probably governed around 145-150, meaning your car's computer will not allow the car to travel any faster (either through a gas cutoff or a rev limiter). This is the same thing, but installed aftermarket onto cars that either don't have a governor (like my TL), or to have a slower governed speed.

yeah most cars already have a limiter installed from the factory(the reason for this being tires, they dont want you to exceed the speed rating for the tires that come on the car for obvious reasons) for example my a4 is limited to 130, i took a quick look and i couldnt find anything right away but ill keep an eye out for you

I know the plastic wrap on the car was good for 135 and another friend tested it at 165!

I was going to say though until I read the thread why would anyone want to install one. Now I would say, yeah its a good idea for teen drivers with no epxerience.

many speed limiters can be gotten past these days. like the newer model bmw M cars. thye are only limited in the final gear , so the second to last gear can usually be taken up to an indicated 170mph or so. i know from experience hehe.my car tops out 5th at 138 though, no limiter at all just no more revs to play with. anyways ive never heard of installing a speed governer, ive only heard of the gps style devices that monitor where the vehicle is, how fast its going and the driving habits

Yeh there was a news show on showing how parents can install one so the car would go past like 55-75, and also a black box so paretns could monitor everything from sudden acceleration, fast stopping etc.

My sister seriously wants to get one for my biz partner (her fiance) lol. He said the cars too smooth, all I know is the new Lexus IS rides like a rock lol, you feel every pebble so not smooth to me lol. You know how fast your going.

i think i would be pretty aware of my speed in the lexus is cars.... they do seem pretty rigid, but then again mine is like on rails and my favoirte cruising speed is around 90, it seems to smoothen everything out at higher speeds, and lower speeds i really feel the rocks and cracks in the road
