I got a call from a neighbor of mine asking if I was available to do her SUV today.. I had the day off so I was more than happy to do it. Plus it reminded me of a little test I had going on her paint.
Just over 6 weeks ago I did a 50/50 test between 2 different products on her hood. [She's a friend so she's fine with me using her SUV as a test guineua pig sometimes] I washed the vehicle, then clayed the hood, and applied both products on May 8th.
Right side: Griots Boss Finishing Sealant.

Left side: Meguiars Paint Protect.

I figured this would be nothing more than a simple water beading test.. It turned out to be a bit more interesting than just that.
Note: This SUV hasn't been touched by anyone since that day. I'm the only 1 who washes/details it.
Well I didn't need any water to check the results.. I actually wasn't even thinking about it at the time because I was getting ready to clean the interior 1st, and the wheels & tires next.. But when I caught a glance at the hood I was like "oh man, look at the difference we got here"!

Now this is what I call some interesting looking results. Lol.

6 weeks daily driven + parked outside. The Meguiars Paint Protect looked pretty sweet.[in comparison to the other side]

Meanwhile, The Boss Finishing Sealant looked like it drove through a mudslide for the past 6 weeks.

Ok so now came time for the long awaited water beading test. Lets see how/if either of these 2 have held up..
1st spray of water:

It's like night & day. I must say It feels good to see a 50/50 experiment work precisely at the tape line.

So you can guess what my initial thoughts might've been.. But I wasn't going to decide anything just yet. I decided to spray the hood down with Megs D114 and let it dwell for a minute while I rinsed the rest of the vehicle. I came back and rinsed the hood and not much changed, in fact the Megs side saw the beading get a little more fierce after that.

So onto the bucket wash w/Megs Shampoo Plus.

And after the rinse final shot. Same water beading results. View attachment 49541
I could've called it at that point.. But I decided to check 1 last thing, the 1 thing that matters even more than beading when it's all said and done.. Have either of these 2 knuckleheads actually provided any real protection to the paint? It's time for a baggie test. They both passed..
At that time I figured the passing of the baggie test meant the Boss Finishing Sealant was about as ok as Kevin Love being alright to celebrate with his fellow Cavalier teammates after winning the Championship. Lol. But then I noticed the Boss Finishing Sealant side was etched with spots from where the dirt blotches had laid.. This is not good here... [hard to get a picture of the etching but you can sort of see it in these 2 pics] Big blotch:

Little spots all over: [you can see them just above the sunlit area. In the shaded side of the pic] It looks like they may need to be mechanically removed.

Interesting results to say the least.. Thx for reading.
