Iron X soap gel is on sale for $1.99 per 50ml bottle. Dilute it 1 part Iron X to 4 parts water (I just put 100ml soap gel in a 16 oz bottle and then fill with water) put it in a spray bottle and here is the result.

I would be interested to see, once you have sprayed your diluted version onto the paint and removed it, if you had to re-spray the same area with the full strength version how much more iron contamination it would remove.

IMO (and I admittedly have not tried to dilute iron-x) this is one of those product where 'full strength' is a must, but I would love to be proven wrong

I've seen a post where more than one full strength application of Iron X was needed. Something tells me this isn't 4X less effective and it still reacted very quickly.

Is it as effective as full strength IX? Hard to say but I do like that idea. It's a great option.

I don't have full strength Iron X, but I have full strength other stuff which I used here. The diluted stuff reacted on the whole car and my guess is it can be diluted a little because it was designed to be used as you wash, not after like normal iron x.

One more pic I found. Full strength on the Optima badge side and diluted on the EX GDI side. Make pic full size.

Hmm this like a really good idea. If this doesn't effect the strength at all I might do this for the next detail.

If someone has full strength Iron X I guess they can compare. It's basically $2 for 8oz of this diluted stuff.

Avi has previously stated that Soap Gel has less iron removing capacity than IX original. So even neat, it won't be as effective. Dilute it down and it can get only worse.

I have seen people do this with IX paste and that seems more logical since it is stated to be stronger than IX original.

If the soap gel was designed to be used with your wet wash pad, it seems like it would have to be pretty concentrated. Think about how much water is in your wash pad compared to the small amount of soap gel you are adding.

That is making the assumption that the two products are intended for the same use, they are not. IX is for full decontamination, IXSG is just a shampoo with iron removal as a bonus, the latter helps remove iron build up, but it is not designed to remove it all in one go. Avi (Carpro) has commented on this many times, for instance, see his post in the following thread:

It performed the same as a full strength decontamination agent. That's just my observation. Even if I had to apply it twice, it would still be a lot cheaper.

Soap gel is less concentrated as it is meant as a maintenance product, not a total solution for iron removal. Once you've used IX spray or paste for iron removal and then coated the car with [pick one], the soap is used to help rid the coating of any fallout, without having to resort to the stronger liquid, in maintenance washes.

Since it lathers I wonder if it would work well in a foam gun? However it is on backorder so I doubt Ill be able to get it.

Iron-X paste CANNOT be diluted to be made into Iron-X spray... I know you're talking about the soap, but I just wanted to make sure that people don't get the wrong idea here. This has been confirmed by Corey @ CarPro...

I've been doing some more testing with this cheap Iron X. Today I compared it to Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner, a full-strength, pH neutral decontamination product that can be used on paint just like IX. For this test I used just water only, no scrubbing.

IX soap gel side:

Adam's side:

Adam's on the right side and IX soap gel on the left side. Reaction time was about equal for the two.

Side by side just hosed off with water:

Both had trouble in the corners. IX soap gel side:

Adam's side:

In my opinion, I'll keep on making my $3.98 16oz bottles of diluted IX soap gel.
