Ok, I've known about the product since I've been here but have a question. When reading the directions it says to not get it on calipers and wheel weights but when watching the videos I see guys just spraying it on w/o any masking off of anything. So here it is, is it ok to just spray it on a dry wheel, let it do its thing and then rinse or agitate before hand and then rinse?

Also those who've used the new Lemon scent and have used the original formula, any difference in performance?

One more thing, just came to me actually, has anyone mixed IronX and their favorite wheel cleaner at a 1:1 ratio on wheels not really bad but worse than normal?

Turns wheel weights green, but that comes right off with a wheel brush

Causes a bit more rust on discs than just water, but that comes off the 1st time you hit the breaks

No difference in effectiveness between the Cherry and Lemon scents.
No one would ever buy a cherry or lemon, if they actually smelled like Iron-X

I would not mix Iron-X with anything

If the wheels are not bad, you shouldn't waste your money using Iron-X

While I'm at it, how about when using it on the paint, should I wet the surface and then spray it on? If so, do I wipe it in once I see bleeding or should I just rinse it down?

I've never had an issue spraying it on any surface that has been cool and out of direct sunlight.

Wheels: Spray onto the surface, let dwell, agitate and rinse.

I've been watching vids lately and really wanna have some IronX on hand, I love using new stuff and its something the mfg's of detailing products know, LOL:p

You need to apply Iron-X to a freshly washed car, that is why you generally see people applying it to a wet car

I have never seen any recommendation that it should not be applied to a dry painted surface

If I was using it to decontaminate a matte finished or wrapped vehicle, I think I would be hesitant to apply it to a bone dry car

I read it smells like a woman (or the guy from "Greatest American Hero") getting a perm in an outhouse! I know this, to date, the Meg's DUB wheel cleaner smells strong and you can even taste it on your tongue if you breathe it in. Because of this, I cover my mouth when using it, I will do the same when I use IronX as well

Dubs is a piece of cake compared to ironx smell wise

:iagree: so true! I've only used the cherry, and the stuff works great, but I can't stand the smell. I only use it if I absolutely have to.

I just ordered the lemon this time around hoping the smell might be better; sounds like that won't be the case.

As a matter of fact, IronX is most effective when applied to a dry or mostly dry surface.

Another thing to bear in mind: the paint should be cleaned and if the car is sealed or waxed, you should strip it first in order to achieve the best results.
 
I don't know if you guys can get it in the states, but dodo juice ferrous dueller is a better product imo. smells a lot better and works extremely well. its thicker than ironX so clings better too. its also got an added soap agent, so doubles up as a wheel cleaner.
 
I have been using the ironx paste. The paste seems to "Hold on" better. It smells just as bad as the spray. Both work as advertised
 
It really doesn't smell that bad. Other smells bother me a lot more.
 
I use it on paint. If it dries, it will leave an easy to wash residue. This is not an issue since application is usually followed by claying.
I like and dislike the cherry scent. Although it smells better than the original, it still stinks. However, I can't refrain from liking its smell, and I don't know why.
 
Yep, without a doubt Iron-X smells like a bag of anal passages! LOL

First time I used it I used a little bit too much of it. No harm, but such can get expensive quick trying to coat every square inch with product. It isn't necessary.

A couple-three squirts per panel, then spread with a well dampened soft clean sponge, then move on.

By the time you walk around the vehicle to apply and spread, it is then about ready to rinse off.

Rinse and rinse and rinse!
 
I for one appreciate all of the info here, as noobs or noobs to the product, like myself, decide to use it, the info is right here.

I was under the impression you would spray it onto the panel and let it sit, then as it bleeds, you spray it off but some of you are saying to spray it and wipe it in, which is it, both ways:confused:

What Mark said. I only use it if I'm going to clay/NanoSkin and polish or correct, so I wash aggressively (thanks Mike!) with shampoo and APC, then dry quickly (AirWand or Guzzler HD). Couple squirts per panel, spread with a well-wrung, damp grout sponge.
 
It clings well, you'll get way more coverage by applying less and spreading with the sponge.

That would kind be kind of like making your own Sonax FE, Griot's HD, Dub, etc. etc.

As far as the smell, Optimum is coming out with a new product called FerreX which supposedly doesn't smell as bad as Iron X. No, I don't know anything else aobut it or when it's coming out.
