Is anyone using Square to take payments?

I currently use it and find it to be a breeze. Very user friendly and quick money deposit. It allows you to take payment over the phone as well via manual entry vs card swipe function.

I use square fairly regularly.

Mostly for when one of my friends forgets his wallet at home and I have to pay for a meal for him. I just swipe his card when we get back to his place.

It works well for detail jobs though. Especially being able to have an itemized invoice you can send to a customer as a reciept.

Thanks for the quick replies! I'm looking into on-line transactions? Is this easy to setup?
My goal is for a customer to go to my web and purchase a gift certificate and pay with CC.
Their website states it can do on-line transactions, but does not go into any detail on how to set that up.

Well you can order/setup the gift card portions of things from the dashboard.

And as far as allowing to order things online you can select what items show up on your online store.

I suggest just signing up and playing with the interface a bit. It doesn't take much time and is free to start.

That's exactly what I just did... Thanks!

I think it is 3%. I use it for my credit card transactions and also the ability to email invoices is great. The customer can pre pay for the service that I may have quoted them from the email it sends them. Over all I'm very happy. I don't use it much for taking payments because most people still have been paying me in cash or check.

I was wondering about this type of payment route. Thanks for the information everyone.

Square charges 2.75%

I love it... money is in my acct at midnight next business day :dblthumb2:

We use Square for our CC and Debit transactions. We also use them to send invoices to our regular clients who are not available when we finish the vehicle and to our corporate accounts (who just mail a check). The entire system is very easy to use. This year we're also using the Square gift cards.

The fees are a little high in comparison to some other payment processing platforms; however, I really like the brand recognition they have. Everyone knows what it is just by the shape of the CC reader and I think it brings a higher level of legitimacy to our mobile operation.

I used to use Intuit GoPayment, but switch to sqaure a few months ago and am impressed.

Very fast and easy to use, programmable mobile point of sale (I still use a separate one because it's has more features that I want such as customer histories on mobile device), FAST payments - Usually same day deposits, competitive rates, customer feedback, customer marketing, and more.

2 thumbs up for square!

I don't do too many paid jobs, but I've taken Square payments a few times. Very easy.

One annoyance I have with them: they've been in Canada for more than four years. Canada has had Chip-and-PIN (EMV) cards since 2008, and completed the wholesale switchover to EMV in 2013. Square started shipping EMV readers late last year, but even though I was able to get one with my dormant US Square account, Register doesn't recognize it for Canadian accounts. They aren't even providing a timeline for Canadian EMV. I've pre-ordered the NFC reader -- I got an email just today saying it won't ship in time for the Holidays -- but Square still says there's no timeline to support for EMV or NFC in Canada. What gives, Square? Most folks in the US don't even have EMV cards yet, while virtually no one in Canada uses mag stripe anymore!

Oh, and the rate for cards is down to 2.65% now. Invoices are still 2.75%.

I use square for mobile payments, works very well.

For low volume operations, the no monthly fee and low per transaction fee are great.

I intend to add the gift card plan to my website this winter when I re-design for next season (I am about to close for winter here in Montreal).

I've used Square for a few years now, but in the last year or so I have been using Paypal.

Square: 2-5 days for available funds @2.75%

Paypal: Immediate funds available @ 2.70%
