I've been hired as an auto detailer....

Congrats on the job Mark! I hate to say it buddy, but you may want to invest in some glaze now. I highly doubt they are going to let you finish down like you're used to doing. In the line of detailing your getting in, you can make a lot of money by volume. Best of luck and I hope all goes well! :dblthumb2:
You pretty much summed it up Richard. I was surprised by the amount of money I can make detailing, but you're right, it's all about volume. Coming from my other job, I thought there was no way I could come close money wise, but it's not that far off. In no time I will be a supervisor. :D This company pays surprisingly well. There's no doubt in my mind I won't be able to finish how I'd like to. I'm sure most of the cars on the lot are covered with glaze. They only use 3M products down to their rotaries. If I knew how to wetsand and mix paint, I could have jumped in as a supervisor.

Why is this? With the cutting and finishing ability the random orbital can attain nowadays, it should at least be considered a viable alternative. I know you are aware of this, but perhaps they are not?

Slap on the Dynabrade attachment and tell them you prefer the size and shininess of your "backing plate". :props:
I'm quite sure they're not aware of the random orbital. It's now going to change, though. :D

If its anything like I picture in my head, you just don't know how much Mark will be bringing to the table. Question is, do they want to take it to the next level

Maybe I'm wrong on how they (high volume) operate these days, but I doubt it
Nope, you're right. As Dave mentioned, I plan on sharing my knowledge for sure!

Thanks to everyone else!

LOL... yeah that'd be awesome -- maybe get Meguiar's to send him the new MF system too, he'd really shock them with that combo I bet.

Congrats on the new gig Mark. I guess it's a good thing that you had a forum like this to learn so much from.:xyxthumbs:

I was thinking the same thing. A basic 2 step system that they could use on all of their cars with amazing results.

Hey Mark,

Congratulations on the great offer!

Mark at work!

:autowash:

I use to be a supervisor of a detailing area of a dealership i worked with years ago. One thing you have to remember, dealerships just want the car to look presentable to the customer, they are not looking for a show car finish unless asked. Also the money can be good, hell before the economy went south the top detailer at my job was pulling 75-80k a year working 5-6 days a week.

Congratulations Mark! I'm happy for you! Im the MAN

just the start Mark ... congrats and enjoy every minute and build a portfolio on each work of art !

Congratulations jobs are very hard to find these days good luck in your new venture

That's great Mark! Just pop out the good work you know you do and show them what a quality detail looks like. And teach them a thing or two. You'll own the place before too long.

Awesome Mark - very happy for you bud. Even if you are making less money, you aren't sitting on the couch making nothing, and like you said, it is something you love to do.
