Killr--Finally got around to the Menzerna. Had some minor swirling on the hood of my black SC430, so I tried a few combinations of pads and products (settled on Meg's 80 with a Blue Edge pad) to get it ready for the Menzerna, and there a few spots that could be a bit better (should have used the Double Xenon more), and I only just worked the hood, but that Menzerna Final Polish II (white Edge pad) took it to a new level. Followed on with WG Deep Gloss Sealant, covered the hood with a bedsheet and left it in the garage until tonight, then finished with Souveran tonight. Puro!Gorgeous.

Now I can go on to the rest of the car. I feel like I finally have my right pad-product-technique combination--seems like maybe it is a bit different for eveybody, maybe due to variance in technique--then of course, you have to change up for the paint!

Lets say you had heavier swirling (not wicked heavy where you would want to use the rotary) and you were going to use, say XMT3(I use Megs 83) and a Lake Country Orange Cutting pad--do you think you could go right to the Menzerna, or would you use XMT1 (I use Meg's 80) in between?

Have you ever used Menzerna's Final Polish II with the Rotary?

Bill--to keep the dust off. This Lexus black seems to swirl just by looking at it, so I don't use QD or California Dusters.

For what its worth, I only have the first version on Menz FP, but it is my favorite so far for fine polishing or jewling.

if you get the chance to get some PO85rd, I do believe your favorite will change there scooter ;)

po85rd applied via a finishing pad leaves a finish that you don't even want to put an LSP on because it looks so perfect.

A little bit ago, I saw you wanting some Meguiar's #16. I have a can I'll send you gratis if you still want it.

mmmm meg's #16.... I'd save that if my garage ever caught on fire. VOC's *drool*

Someone explain jewling for me? From what I have picked up it's using a light abrasive on a finishing pad?

Ha! I searched the internet and found four cans at about $16.00 each. I don't know that the result is any better than with Souveran, but Souv comes off easier. I am guessing that #16 lasts longer, but that is pure speculation. I think Killr suggests that Souv has a better first look but may not have the durability of other waxes, and I am guessing that #16 is one of those "other" waxes.

#16 is pry the best wax Megs ever had, where are you guys finding it? Crazy, on other detailing boards seems everyone is trying to track down where they can buy some of whatever is left over.

Hi. I think that jeweling is a term that Killr invented. I believe that he coined the term after seeing a jeweler put the finishing touch on a gem or metal. It means taking a finish to a higher level (probably only one that you can see on a dark color?). It puts a higher shine on the finish than most people are willing to bother with--sort of a step beyond what your usual final polishing step would doi.e. XMT 1, Meguiars #80 or #9. Its a very non-abrasive pad and polish combination.

this thread has done me well, as sometimes I feel like I write the same things time and again. But it appears many listen and approach my offerings with an open mind.

Menzerna --- It is simply one of the finest polishes made. I am truly sorry we dont carry it, as I hate to offer someone else's product. But .... you gotta give kudo's. Almost every polish they offer breaks down into a super finishing polish and its the only line I would ever use without having to jewel the surface with. (it does it all in one step) If you can find some P085 grab it, but its likely gone from the US for good. The 066 aint bad but certainly more abrasive initially.

jeweling --- Blackcoupe is spot on , I coined the term when I watched the jeweler work on my wife diamond wedding band. They use a harsh polish at first, and then they "gem" the surface with a very light polish and a very soft pad at higher speeds. I find that XMT 3 and 1 , Poorboys SSR 2.5 and 1.0, and DACP with FP (thats the original Menzerna polish) work well in unison.

#16 ---- ahhh , pre VOC bliss. Its loaded with all sorts of bad things for the environment but what doesnt these days. It was always known as a durable wax, and looked wet, but not what the highend waxes offered.

Coupe, I'd love to do alittle trading with ya! Shoot me a PM with some things you might like to try!

OK, What is PO85rd?
