hello fellow geeks.
I've been a super long time lurker and I finally decided to join. I first found out about autogeek when I got (leased) my new Pilot in 2010. I read lots and lots and never had the need to ask "what wax should I use" because the search function is very useful. I read all the posts up until about a year ago and got lazy and quit washing as frequently. My motivation got restarted when I got my newest Pilot last month. It's color is dark amber metallic. It's basically a dark metallic that I think changes from dark brown to very dark gray almost black. I had them not wash the vehicle when I took it home but the damage was already done. It has swirl marks from being washed in the swirl-o-matic for a couple months.#

I don't have a DA but I have a friend who has talked to me about splitting the cost of one plus all the pads and products for it, we'll see how that turns out. Just wanted to say a quick hi and introduce myself. We also buy stuff by the gallon and split that. That has made a huge savings in spending.

If I was using my real name Meghan would probably recognize me since I email her all the time when I mess something up or ask for something special. This is a very helpful place and the customer service is top notch! Even if I could get stuff cheaper locally (which is a crazy idea) I'd much rather deal with the awesome folks at autogeek!

:welcome: to the forum.

Welcome! Just a suggestion but consider getting your own pads each and split the DA cost. Pads are easy to destroy by improper use and cleaning. :) Again welcome.

I was kind of thinking that might be an issue. It also seems that my Honda and his bmw will require much different technique due to different paint hardness.

Welcome from a former Iowan and frequent visitor! My mother lives in Sioux City and she has a red 2011 Honda Pilot. Last weekend I was finally able to polish her vehicle (her Mother's Day present), and let me tell you, that took some serious work! I used the 6" Meguiar's Microfiber DA Correction System on a Flex 3401 VRG along with their 3" discs on a Griot's Garage 3" DA (GG3). Additionally, I used a Werner AP-20 platform ($50 at Home Depot) in order to safely work on the roof. When I was done, ALL of the scuffs, scratches, and swirls were gone and it looked better than when it rolled off the assembly line. Man did those metallic flakes pop!! Hopefully you'll find this useful for working on your Pilot. Also, the windshield washer sprayer nozzles on the hood pop right out which make buffing the hood a little easier.

If you're interested in seeing pictures of the kinds of scuffs and scratches this system took out, I'd be happy to share. Unfortunately I only have before shots since it was late by the time I got done and I had to drive back home to Lincoln, NE and forgot to take pictures afterwards.

Again, welcome!!

BTW, did you go to Iowa State (judging from the Cyclone reference in your username)?

Wow great info. The amount of paint real estate on these things is crazy. I actually got a sample of cquartz so I can apply it to the roof and hopefully make my life easier.

I am am ISU grad. And you could probably guess my job is a civil engineer.

Born in Dubuque, but raised on the other side of the Mississippi in Wisconsin. Welcome to the forums!

Welcome from yet another Iowan. Where you located? I'm in Council Bluffs.

Welcome!

You mentioned that you would be purchasing product 'by the gallon,' (I say this nicely) are you sure you want to get that much? That's a lot, I mean A LOT of stuff.

Welcome from NW Illinois!

Ditto on the idea for each of you have your own pads. Buying gallons of often used product is a good idea. You might want to split that into separate containers too.

I just get things like ONR, APC, wheel and tire cleaner by the gallon. Definitely not waxes, sealants, polishes, and stuff like that. I think those would go bad soon.
