LC Yellow flat pad vs. MF cutting pad?

Very rarely do I see LC yellow flat pad mentioned. If I had never bought pads before or look in the AG store id probably never knew they existed. My question is how does the yellow pad compare to the MF? Thanks guys.

I gave up on the Y cutting for the MF cutting pad (LC on a DA) 1-yr ago. MF is more expensive but it produces time-saving faster cuts and finishes down better. And I don't need to step up to a Wool or Foam Wool pad at this time. Buy 1 MF pad (you may find a Meguiar's MF) at Wal Mart and give it a try.

The LC yellow cutting has good cut and an excellent finish for a foam cutting pad. A MF pad will cut more, hands down. Generally speaking, a MF pad will not finish as good as an LC yellow cutting pad.

I'd agree with that...

I tend to stick with the orange foam cutting pads when using foam cutting pads because in most cases they'll get the job done and I already have a ton of pads in the pad cabinet in our garage and don't want to try to warehouse another size, type and color.

A MF pad will cut more, hands down.

Fiber pads in general will cut better than foam pads because each individual fiber can make a cut into the paint on it's own and fibers are a type of abrasive in the context of buffing pads.

Generally speaking, a MF pad will not finish as good as an LC yellow cutting pad.

All other factors being equal, foam pads will finish down nicer on a wider spectrum of paint systems as compared to fiber pads of any type.

I've found that certain types of defects respond differently to different types of pads. For example, I was working the roof of the wife's SUV this weekend, and it was straight TRASHED. For some reason the LC Yellow Pad did a better job of both cutting through swirls\RIDs AND finishing better than either the Meguiar's Xtra Cut or Cut discs.

And for some reason, I just enjoy using foam pads more. Not sure why...

I've found that different paint systems respond differently to different pads and chemicals and that's why it's important to have a selection of different products and pads and the ability and experience to do some testing before trying to buff out an entire car.

A little time invested in testing can save a lot of time overall.

And for some reason, I just enjoy using foam pads more. Not sure why...

I'm in that camp too...

Foam pads buff smoother overall and the cushion provided by the foam contours to curved body panels better than microfiber discs.

I used the Meguiar's microfiber pads back in 2006 long before they went public and at the time I was seriously blown away by how well they performed on some really hard Viper paint with horrible water spots, swirls and scratches so sometimes they can be the best pad for the job.

I as much as I use MF pads I do like using foam pads a lot more for some reason. I will be trying some new foam pads in the near future and hopefully they work as good as MF pads.
