So I went back home to the D this past weekend and while I'm in town I always hit up the long time running cars and coffee show at The Auto Zone (its name has been changed to the current owners last name and I can't spell or pronounce it, sorry) If your interested in attending its just N of 14 mile and Woodward Avenue in Birmingham Michigan, starts at 8 a.m. but you can get there early if you'd like, especially for parking your ride. Speaking of parking your ride, this is open to all cars, not just Murican muscle and everyone likes it that way, a unique show in the metro Detroit area from that standpoint. This is a true enthusists show as well, the way people carry themselves here tells you these guys/gals are the real deal!
I've been going to this show since 2007 and always amazed what shows up to it, for instance, my first time there had a Pinto that looked like it just rolled off the assembly line and Ferarri F430, from that day on, I was hooked! Let's not forget that this show is on the world famous Woodward Avenue also, so afterwards you can go for a ride on the same road where mfg's in the 60's would take "then new" muscle cars out to see what they could do against the competition. This road also hosts the largest car event in the world, The Woodward Dream Cruize, every 3rd Saturday in August since 1995 where 1 million plus people attend and well over 50,000 cars are parked and/or "trying" to cruize Woodward. If your car guy/gal, this is something you MUST attend atleast once, a bucket list to do for sure IMO.
The following pics are just a sample of what can show up at random, nothing is organized here, they just show up and this particular cars and coffee was the best one I've attended...ever!
First off, got to meet Chet (Hoyt66) and he brought out his pride and joy. Chet is a very personable guy and true AG'er through and through. As if a HEMI powered Challenger R/T isn't fast enough, he's added a blower, headers, exhaust and intake, a real sleeper because its all stock appearing while parked, check it out:
I spoke about contrast at this show, so let me show you some of that:
A first gen Corvette and Lancia, parked next to each other and getting along just fine!
Pantera DeTomaso and RHD old RR, crazy!!!
How about 2 FWD from opposite ends of the spectrum?!
...and now let's REALLY talk about opposite ends of the scale!
Only in the D!
When I say you NEVER know what will show up, I mean it, check this out....this is NOT a kit car either!
This Porsche was just off a complete restoration, absolutely perfect! The next car was not off a fresh restoration, just your regular ICON!
Look at curve in the glass!
In all my years of going to shows I've never seen this particular badge on a Poncho, now I have! This is what I'm talking about with this show!!
Now in "wide track" view!
Stunning and correct in every way!!!
Can't deny the curves of the Dino!
Parked out back, 63' Riv!
Talked to this guy and the paint is 12 years old, this is one Hot Rod done right in everyway!
HI, I'm a sprite!
Pride of Kenosha, cool in its own way!
Here you go Monica, this guy has owned the car since day one, he too is back for a visit!
We're not called the Motor City for nothing, this was out running around the entire weekend, glad he pulled in with it!
Check out the carbon fiber tub!
When I saw this Hot Rod it stopped me dead in my tracks! A 4-0-9, are you kidding me!
Ok, I have one more car to show you but its so rare and unique that its being posted by itself, so please wait to post until after I get the pics up, thank you
