Lesson Learned... Still Not Over It..

So you're assuming he waxed it?

Here is a new picture of the spot from the last picture in the original series of photos

I am not assuming that. However, I have coated a few cars myself, and never ever would I have anything on the finish. Matter of fact, even if you had left some polish residue on the paint, when you put the coating on, it will "clean' it off. Looks like wax/sealant residue to me. I mean once you put the coating on, how do you get "smear" on the paint on top of it?

b0b - not a good picture - you need to get it from a 45 degree angle, against the sun.

Just realized I haven't uploaded any photos of the damage done to the second car... This one was after they messed up my car. Took a picture with my cell phone. Looks much worse in person.

I was thinking about driving down to your neck of the woods and going over
to McCluskey's or Joseph's to look at a couple of vehicles...

Not any more!!

One would think/hope that Lexus would take care of their cars and not ruin them... I'm planning on going down there one sunny day and taking some pictures of their new black cars.

I would be willing to bet that they all look like this.

And guess what... They are going to have to live with the ugly mess. The paint readings are in the 60's....

I just got my PTG working thanks to an awesome member here on AGO and was saddened to see how little clear is left on this car.

It's safe to say that readings in the 60's are too dangerous to go after, correct me if I'm wrong... The readings on my car are in the mid to high 100's.

Just went through every page and now I'm even more paranoid to take my car to the dealership. 2 reasons. 1) I had to witness my car taken for a joy ride and run a personal errand by an employee on his lunch break while it was in for a recall. 2) DISO

I'm determined to take videos and pictures of my paint's condition from now on before taking it in for recalls or warranty work with dates in the videos and pictures. Definitely going to print out some "Don't wash" signs.

Glad you finally got it resolved and enjoying your car again though. Update us on your parents' car though.

You need a new dealership. If employees are taking your car for a pack of smokes on lunch, that is no good. Of course, I used to do it when I was a tech for Ford - but only if the car needed a test drive to pinpoint some issue. Was the car there for some diagnosis or just maintenance?

You should have more confidence in your dealership. Try someone else. I have 5 BMW dealers closer to me than the place I deal with - Ottos BMW. I go to Ottos (and buy my cars there) because they are extremely professional and respect your vehicle. They seem to leave no stone unturned. Of course they are almost an hour away, but it's worth it to me. They are the AG of dealerships.

It was at the dealership just for the recall. If I remember correctly it did not require a test drive. Also, I live in Las Vegas. There are only 2 BMW dealerships, owned and ran by the same scums. I'm glad I'm not too fond of the newer BMW models, it'll be easier for me not to have to deal with them ever. Not that I would ever bring my business to them again, but for warranty work or recalls.

Just FYI - I featured part of this story on the DI AAP Blog (with the owner's permission, of course) to try to help spread the word about how much damage can come from one improper wash.

And speaking of....
I received a call today from another body shop, referred by the Hennessy group with a Jag in the shop that had a "coating" on it. A coating that they didn't know anything about, or what it even is for that matter. What they DO know is the owner says the car had it on there before going in for repairs, and they need it to be BACK on there after all is said and done.

Oh great, a body shop that is going to fill the car with holograms and buffer trails, all disguised underneath a layer of glaze, AGAIN! Now for some detective work to find out if it was OC or Cquartz. In any event it is going to need total removal and replacement. Should be out of paint by Thursday, guess we'll have to formulate a plan once we see the, ahem 'damages'. ;)
