Lesson Learned... Still Not Over It..

I see, that is good.

What did he use to clean the paint with? Personally from what I have seen in my 10 years of doing this full time, Menzerna will look very good after a couple of IPA wipe downs, but use a paint cleaner afterwards, and you will see the true condition of the paint sadly. Hope it all works out for you!

When I came to pick it up this morning I noticed the marks left from compounding. After that we corrected it (Menzerna 4500) and then he re-applied OC.

I completely agree... I will continue to apply it traditionally. I don't trust myself with this type of spray method and have no complaints about the standard 'apply by hand' process.

Care to share what mini-hlvp you've got?

I just picked up a cheap HF unit to test the spraying of OC before I'd consider dropping coin on a Iwata or other more expensive unit. Using the new Primer now I doubt I'll do any spraying of it on a whole car as it really seems to ease application. I have a new Harley to coat next week and I may try spraying that thing.

What would you use instead of the Menzerna? He did an IPA wipedown after the polish.

Car looks good guys! There is one tiny spot where it looks like all the Polish wasn't removed but other than that it looks really good.

But guess what...... My dad has an 09 Lexus IS250, black just like mine. Welllllll it was in shop for a week getting a lot of warranty work done on engine. We took it in the same week as my second meeting with Lexus. Again we pleaded not to wash their car.

My dad picked it up the other day and they met him with a big smile and snark remark of we didn't wash your car!

Bullllllllll they ran it through same swirlamatic that they ran mine through!! Their car looks so much worse than mine too.

Another meeting with Lexus has been scheduled. LOL I CAN NOT BELIEVE THEIR STUPIDITY. Only reason I could tell was because my parents dropped me off and it was sunny. But wow does it look bad.

Needless to say, I'll be handling all the work on this one whether Lexus likes it or not. They no longer get to pick and choose things

Wow...

How hard is it to just not put the darn thing through the swirlomatic? It's LESS work for the same money? Kinda makes me nervous. I haven't had a car in warranty in a while so repairs have either been done at home or at a trusted local mechanic who doesn't wash it!

It looks bad too... I had to drop the car off in the garage and head right back out but I'm planning on doing a mini photoshoot later on. I'll make sure to take a pic or two of the damaged car too.

First off, thank you to everyone at AG. You guys and gals are freaking awesome and you have NO idea how much your help means to me. Anyways, I have been so upset since the car wash and today was the first day that I could look at the car and be thrilled again.

Here are the photos.

The one mark that wasnt fixed ^

Thanks for looking everyone:dblthumb2:

I am glad you are easily satisfied. That last picture? I personally would never let a car be returned in that condition to the owner. Can you take more direct sun pictures? (trunk-hood)

I really don't mean to be a party pooper. But that is not a quality job. Did you not say your paint was mint? The last picture reveals a lot of imperfections.

The paint was not mint previously. I purchased the car used and it already had a decent amount of pits in the paint. I can certainly take more photos in the sun, possibly tomorrow. That picture is zoomed and cropped pretty significantly as well. Also, since the car was just opti-coated I didnt want to QD it and have been driving it all day. Could be some dust in there too.

Is this the best my car has looked? Nope. BUT it does look as good as it did when I took it to the car wash. He did a pretty good job on my bumper too, fixing both the marks that previously looked much worse and smoothed it out considerably.

I've never worked with any coatings. He said don't put anything on it for a week in terms of washing or anything like that. Is that just to let it fully cure?

Glad that you are happy. You can use a QD on the coating even the 2.0 he used after 1 hour. With OC 2.0, you do have to wait a week before using any cleaners on it like car soap vs 48 hours with the OC PRO version. Finally, you can enjoy it, it sounds like. Thanks for the update. Still would like to see some direct sun pictures.

It takes 30 days to fully cure. But you can wash the consumer version (2.0) after 7 days. As I said, QD is ok to use after 60 minutes just like rain is ok after an hour.

I have been looking at your thread sorry this happen to you! If it makes you feel better anytime I go to a dealership I will put a sign up ;) looks good one day I would like to get a is or any kind of lexus :)

Sounds like you need to print up several signs and tape them on all of your windows for any future visits to the dealership.

You'd think the dealership would have learned their lesson with you, but the unfortunate truth is that they most likely haven't.

Car looks nice! I would be interested to know what that mark is in your last photo? If they truly applied coating to every painted surface they surely would have noticed that... but then again, who knows based on your other stories of this place. At least you're happy with it.

Who knows what it WAS, I used qd and it wiped off. I thought anything under the coating couldn't be wiped off? Was I misinformed or is there no opticoat on the car?

I took some more pictures in sun and of spot after wiping off. Will post when home.

If it wiped off, then I wouldn't worry about it as long as the area still exhibits the correct properties of being coated.

You mean future visits to the new dealership you are going to scout out?

Of course, there might not BE another one close by (being from a rural area I realize I have a different perspective on what's 'close', and don't mind driving an hour), but I don't think I'd return to a dealer that was unwilling to handle a simple request like that and had to be fought to pay for their mistake; in ADDITION to blaming the customer for their damage.

That is one advantage of owning a domestic car. Dealers are a dime a dozen. Not sure how plentiful they will be for that one. (Though there are several Lexus dealers within what I would call driving distance).

Although, they may be EXTRA careful with your car in the future. They may also be a lot less than likely to go above and beyond for you in any way, shape or form. I guarantee you that once you left they all sat around and talked about what a jerk you were for being so worried about little scratches that you can barely see, all while the car wash guy says "And I don't care what he says, I KNOW it looked like that when he brought it in".

My $0.02! I wouldn't return to that dealer.

It is good that it wiped off, but if it was over OC, it should only be what you would consider high spot, which would not wipe off. Weird. If it was "under" OC, it would be permanent.

So you're assuming he waxed it?

Here is a new picture of the spot from the last picture in the original series of photos

Ok, thanks. I would be pretty upset to find out that he waxed it instead of OC...
