When I was heavy into photography I started looking at everything differently. I would look at things and wonder 'would it make a cool shot?'. Some of my favorite shots were random in the moment shots.

Now that I've turned my attention to a detailing hobbyist, I find myself looking at cars going, I could make that looks soooo much better. Anyone else do that?

I'm currently watching Mecum Dealmakers. It's a sort of behind the scenes where they are talking to the sellers. I have always been surprised when I see cars that are dusty, or worse yet, they have marring and/or swirls. If you're going to ask 10s of thousands of dollars, IMO you better have that thing looking like a show car! If we can see it on TV, how bad is it in person?

My daughter and I walked around a local car show this weekend and talked (to ourselves quietly) about the very very poor condition of about 93% of the cars there. Worse than swirls about 1/3 of them had smears from the owners wiping them down when they got to the show. UGH. I should have had a BOX of business cards and passed them out like candy.

Totally...

CONSTANTLY!

Yep. Also, I get really annoyed at car shows when 99% of the vehicles being shown have swirls and/or holograms!

This photographer did a shoot on a 1968 Camaro he surprised his dad with (dads dream car). Being a photographer he shot the car, 40 hours in photoshop, then gave dad just the framed pic on Christmas for dads reaction... then surprised him with the real thing :)

40 hours in photoshop

Great read on his web page.

If you don't like the way my vehicle looks...
then you probably won't like me, and the
way that I look...and I'm OK with that.

how did you jump to that conclusion?

most detailers pride themselves in being able to achieve a nice finish on a car. when they see a car without one, they would want to correct it. has literally nothing to do with the person that owns or drives it.

I get more annoyed when the car at the show is full of holograms and is also on a local shop's page as an example of their top notch detailing work. They are, after all, Minneapolis and Saint Paul's ONLY European, exotic and specialty auto detailing! (Their words, not mine)

Looks like you have jumped to several conclusions.

Actually I do like your car, especially the color. LOL

Thanks...
But it currently has plenty of paint
blemishes. The old saying:
"Speed Kills"...(the paint finish, that is)..
comes to mind in this case.

And orange peel? Talk about orange peel!!
This color is "Orange" peel incarnate:
(like the Devil, himself)!

Working in custom paint has ruined car shows for me. I can't believe some of the cars I have seen take best paint.

Unfortunately I know what you mean. When I come back home to Ohio I've done what I can to add a little protection to save my car. She only had 1,400 miles on my first trip up there. My last trip I didn't have time to give it that $6 paint protection and paid the price. I ended up with several chips.
