M105 user friendly for beginners

This one gets my vote

Easiest if applied by hand with a terry cloth kitchen towel

Dad said, "You have to let it dry."

m105 is a great product. but i dont think its for beginners.
it will dry up fast on you.. and it will gum up too.
definitely do small sections at a time, and use the right pads with it.
i use megs 105 with meg mf cutting pads on my rupes 21.

you might need a compound with a little longer working time..when youre first starting out.

How do those pads stay on the Rupes 21 for you?

What about Megs Foam pads?

Meg's MF cutting pads are my go-to pads on most details now. I love them on my Rupes 21.

I love these pads but they dont go well with my Flex 3401. It smashes the fibers down fast. Im constantly re-fluffing the pads. However, on a reg Da machine they work great. Do u think its the direct drive feature of the Flex thats smashing my pad fibers?

Which ones do you consider more user friendly than M105?

Megs Ultimate Compound is great

Try Megs Ultimate Compound. IMO it does great work and is probably the best for beginners.

+1, very easy to work with and barely a spec of dust.

Sounds like ill go with that but does it cut pretty quickly i don't want it to take forever but do want it to be beginner friendly

It does very well with an orange cutting pad, but the actual paint will determine it's cutting ability. On my wife's '09 Pilot, it cuts like a champ and leaves a great finish. On my '01 Altima, it takes a lot more work--so much so that I might use the MF cutting pads I have because a number of the defects remained (but that's because the 2nd gen Altima's clearcoat is very resilient).

Finished my first machine polish yesterday! My 2003 Mazda MPV minivan in silver.

Orange pad with Meguiars Ultimate Compound

White pad with Meguiars Ultimate Polish
Harbor Freight Dual Action

This is what I learned:

3 panels are too much before cleaning the orange pad. The pad started hopping instead of spinning smooth. I used the clean on the fly technique after 3 panels but it was only good for a minute or so and started hopping again on the fourth panel. Next time I'll do 2 panels, clean, 2 panels and switch to a new one.

White pad did fine the whole time. Cleaned on the fly after 3 panels and it finished up the fourth panel great. I think it would have been good for 5 or 6 panels before switching to a new one.

It took about 14 hours total spread out over 3 sessions. I'm pretty happy how it turned out although the silver hides scratches so well it's hard to see a big difference. The wife can't tell. Lol!

Next up...more practice on the wife's 2009 Mazda 6!

Just used M100 with the MF pads today for the first time on a DA and the combination is nothing short of amazing. Its literally took out 1500 sanding on a key scratch job.I measured the heat at 90 degrees on panel after 2 passes and placed a spot cooler on the panel (I got it from my brothers Milling Machine, used to cool work and tooling during manual machining) after to drop temp as I didnt want to heat the filler paint to much to point of it pulling out.Just being safe. This is the Phoenix Cooling Method ...lol

^ harder to work with: I'd say 3M rubbing compound

Easier to work with: Menzerna FG400

I'm a noob with the DA but finding 3M Auto Advanced Rubbing Compound to be easy. It will; however, leave haze behind, at least for me, but the next polish step easily removes it. I've been using it on RIDS moreso than swirls.

There are different 3M compunds. 3M Auto Advanced Compound, 3M Perfect-It Compound, 3M Heavy Duty, Imperial, etc.

I was brand new to machine polishing and started with the M105 and LC Orange pads - didn't have any problems with it.
