M16 versus P21S

I think its mold as in molding parts...making plastic or fiberglass parts in a mold.

What is a mold release wax? What does mold have to do with car waxing? Am I the only one who doesn't know this?

Funny that so often when a "Mold Release Wax" is brought up there's always some that have never heard of this category of products. Don't feel bad, we all had our first time for hearing about mold release waxes.

Correct.

A Mold Release Wax is a barrier-coating that separates the surface of the mold from the part being made. I had to work with mold release projects while at Meguiar's.

I also wrote all the documentation and flow chart for the Velocity line of products. I still have a copy of the large, wall flow chart I wrote when the product line was launched. It was a little challenging to write because they wanted as few words on the chart as possible. I can bring it in and take a picture if anyone is interested.

I love P21s, use it on my Corvette. It produces an excellent shine and application is so quick you can do the whole car in 30 minutes.

But its pretty much gone the next time you wash the car if its seen some sun/elements. I dont care about that on my Vette, its not a daily driver, but obviously I wouldn't recommend it for that purpose.

On a side note, I put Griots new paste wax on my hood a few weeks ago and its still beading tightly. Its application rivals P21s, but I carefully avoided trim, I am not sure its trim friendly.

I used M16 on my beaters for years. I have a black door that i've used to test waxes on. While M16's durability is excellent, it does milk black quite a bit. P21S is much clearer. I like Zymol Titanium better than either though. With todays sealants, i would think M16 has no place. I would never use it on a nice finish.

Why not use 16 on a nice finish? Too much rubbing to apply and remove?

I assume you don't understand what i mean by "milk". To test waxes, you start with a perfectly polished black surface(ONLY black works), put your waxes on and examine the squares in a UV light. Most will have a slight white haze as waxes are not transparent. I call this haze "milkiness" because it looks just like you poured milk on the surface. M16 is super milky and is just plain not acceptable on black. Just about any other color you will not see this milking although i could see it my red vehicle
also. It's just too opaque. M16 was never advertised as a show car wax.

Too stop a whole lot of questions, the polish you use does enter into your test as some polishes like 3M perfect it have not oils or emolients so your fresh polished surface with this pure polish looks milky in it's own right because it needs oils. It's the oils in a particular wax that gives it the depth and pop, not the wax. Although for most those oils only come from the wax. The wax will always pull the finish down, not up. You don't use wax on a show car. Most polishes do have oilsl in them though faking people out when doing polish tests. You cannot test polishes without oiling them up after polish. I won't comment on sealants as i haven't gone there.

M16 is likely in the running for the longest lasting carnuba, but there is a tradeoff. Way back when i stopped using 16 on black DD's, i went with megs 26 and then 3m show car wax. Tons of new ones to try now. I LOVE ZYMOL Titanium, it's the unknown sleeper out there. It's not crystal clear on black, but it's damn close. It'sw super durable for a show car wax, and you DO NOT have to use your hands. Thats just stupid IMO. Hands do not belong on a finish.

If you're a real nut on this stuff as i was once, go to the junkyard and buy a black door and you can easily do your own tests. Strangely almost no one does this and IMO its almost impossible to tell what products 'pop' by using them on complete cars. Of course is you don't own a ####### black car(argg), you can go for second teir clarity with a more convenient product. Just my antedotal opinions and there are now so many new products that i have not even tried. Gearing up for that now.
