Maguires Ultimate Wax

I did not know Megs 156 was the bulk equivalent of Megs ULW, I am a weekend hobbyist not a bulk buyer.

D156 is equivalent to Ultimate Quik Wax which is a spray wax. Totally different from Ultimate Wax in the liquid form.

Meguiar's Ultimate line-up is my new favorite.

My PC 7424 died last Fall while applying multiple coats of DG so I bought Meg's Power DA (drill-based) system with UP and ULW. I used it last weekend and I am a convert! I loved using it and my car never looked better.

Just a FYI... Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax is not the same as D156 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax. The comparison could be made to D157, Synthetic X-Press Wax.

D156 & UQW are designed to be wax refreshers or boosters whereas D157 & ULW are designed to offer better protection and longer lasting durability. All products synthetic sealants.

In general:
D156 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax closely resembles Ultimate Quik Wax
D157 Synthetic X-Press Wax closely resembles Ultimate Liquid Wax

Is there such thing as over waxing a car?

For example, could I wax my car every couple of weeks without causing harm? Or is this pointless, as the product in using is designed to last longer than a few weeks?

I don't think so. But then again.... that's just me. ;)

Seriously though, I'm always doing something to our personal cars. Either QD boosters, stripping and re-sealing, or re-waxing... OR topping a sealant with some sort of wax.

Not that any of it is actually NEEDED, but it does make me feel better. :D

Haha I'm glad someone has the same attitude as me. My wife thinks I'm nuts because I'm always doing something to my car.

What is stripping? And how is that done? A clay bar?

I don't know what cardady exactly means by "stripping"

My take is... apply a "Pre-Wax Compound". This removes all the old built up wax sealant and polish. from the paint. It is applied the same way you apply you wax. If using a DA use the wax / sealant pad. this comes in both past and liquid. Note... this product is not a cleaner wax.

Lots of confusing threads. First there are 3 types of waxes/sealants... 1. paste 2. liquid. 3 spray wax...........Meguiars Ultimate wax comes in all three..

If you want a spray wax for maintenance to use in between waxes then Megs. Ultimate spray wax is a great product, now if you want to save money and get the same thing then purchase Megs. D156 x-press it comes only in a gallon and is about 1/3 the cost of Ultimate spray wax, it`s marketed to the professional detailers but is the same product with a little different smell to it.

Stripping is using a product that takes off all the waxes/sealants and gets down to the bare paint. You do this so the sealant will bond much better with the paint, it will last longer also. There are paint cleaners, and some liquid solutions made to do this stripping. Some will use a clay before stripping to make sure contaminants are removed from the paint before using a cleaner.

If the megs ultimate paste wax is a sealant because its synthetic, should I go over it with a carnuba wax once it "sets" on the paint?

Or should I use a true sealant like Blackfire Wet Diamond then follow it up with the Megs ultimate paste wax?

It's a preference.
If you like the looks of UW on its own, no need for the carnauba.
If you like BWD on its own... do that.

Think Diminished Return.

If you are like me and cant seem to keep you hands off the car, do sealant and top with carnauba but again, its a preference thing.

I'm still trying to figure out if the uw is a sealant. Sounds like it is from reading the other comments. I like the look. I think I'll just stop there. But I am like you, I can't keep my hands off the car. Perhaps a nice carnuba follow up is in order.

Yes, UW is a sealant.
Personally, I prefer the look of the carnauba as I think it has more depth in the shine. IMO, UW has that mirror type shine and seems flat.

One thing I would like to mention is that I was impressed with Wolfgang DGPS 3.0 which is a sealant and I think it rivals carnauba in my opinion... at least the Meg's Gold Class.

Previously, I laid down UW and topped it with Gold Class. Now, I just do 2 coats of DGPS 3.0

Ok. Ill give that a shot when I'm out of this paste wax. It's going to last forever though. Paste goes a long way.

MUW paste is great stuff. Durability is as good as any traditional sealant, Zaino and NuFinish included. And it doesn't seem to stain trim.

I've noticed that too. At least so far. It's some of the easiest stuff I've used. I also liked their clay bar and their detailing spray. A little expensive but good products

I use Ultimate Wax all the time. Actually I use ULW (Ultimate Liquid Wax) much more than the paste version. Talk about a bargain wax! ;)

Speaking of a bargain wax, look at Meguiar's #26.

I saw 26 today at AutoZone and wondered how it compared to UW. I also saw Colli 845 today and I've heard its excellent. I might end up trying it instead of the 26.

I was hoping to find m205 at a local retailer but no luck. I did see Ultimate polish but now sure how comparable it is to 205.

Has anyone tried the black wax? I've heard decent things. I've also heard people putting down the black wax and then topping it with megs UW. Can you putting down a wax and top it with a sealant?

Black wax is AIO.
You should be ok to apply UW.
