Master Blaster

One other thing worth mentioning about the Air Force Blaster, vs. the Master Blaster, is the Master has the wheeled dolly, while the AF Blaster just has little feet and tends to tip over, which at a minimum scratches the paint off, if you hit it the right way you can flip the switch on or off.

Another reminder while we're talking electrics, is it's best to have a GFCI outlet when you're mixing extension cords and puddles from car washing.

Bill, I thought 18 Amps was the peak (startup)

1HP = 745.699872 Watts

745.7W/hp*8hp = 5965.6 watts / 120Volts = 49.73A

Something doesn't add up here. Even at 80% efficiency the numbers are not working for me :(

I know it trips my 15Amp breakers after 2-3min, but my 20Amps are fine. I'll send them an email and ask.

Well worth the money IMO. I guess my 15A is not working correctly. I blew it once starting both motors at once. If I start one then the other a few seconds later, it won't blow. Either way, I have someone coming to change it to a 20A.

I'm never able to get any of these tools/appliances to add up.

I used mine today for the first time on my car. My initial thoughts are that this is indeed well worth the money. Why? Things like having your wheel wells dried to perfection as well as your tires. What a great way to put dressing on them too when they are completely dry...no watering down of the product. The job it did on the wheels was amazing. The paint, well I expected that to be 100% dry and it was. No touch ups needed whatsoever. It is not a quick process, but it is very effective. I wish the cord to the machine was longer. A 25' cord would be great. Also, after running it on an older plug for about 10 minutes straight with both motors, it blew a fuse. I plugged it into a new and stronger outlet and it did fine.
Bobby, treat yourself. I did and have no regrets.

Bill's calculations are spot on. The next question should be; how is the horsepower of the Master Blaster calculated? I may be wrong but don't think anyone's running them on a 50amp breaker....:dunno:

Great point and an absolutely correct observation. Most Universal type AC motors are rated at what the MFG or end user refers to as "Peak HP" or they may say "Develops 8 HP" and this has no real world correlation except that it sounds impressive.

Here is a link to an article that explains this subject very well if you are inclined to do a bit of reading on it.

Who has one in Southern California? I would love to see it dry a car before I buy one. To me, it sounds like it will take much longer than with towels. I hope I am wrong because drying a car down with no towels and no loss of time would be cool!

AG is having a 15% off labor day sale with free shipping, right? Does this include the master blaster?

You guys ate making me want to buy one!

Does it really completely dry the vehicle? When I use my leaf blower, I still get some spots because I'm not fast enough to go around the vehicle after rinsing it down. or is that because the leaf blower doesn't have adequate power and the metro blower should fix that?

I would say it's because the Master Blaster has a ton more power.

I had a chance to use one at Detail Fest this year for the first time. After I washed the TB I started drying it by hand, the guy next to me (Gary) told me to try this and handed me the Metro. I was amazed. The thing dried engine compartment, tires, wheels, wheel wells, mirrors, door seals, everything much dryer than you could by hand. I even think that by drying it so fast it enhanced the shine.

I wanted one then and I want one now but the cost is a little high for someone who just does their own car.

I think for someone who washes a lot, is in the business, or does a lot of friends cars it will be worth it and pay for itself in no time.

Just my opinion, take for what it's worth.

Power = Volts * Current. 120V *18A= 2160 Watts. The 8HP is a peak value when the motors are momentarily loaded.

For the benefit of others, I got a nice response from Metro on the HP and current.

Hello Bill

Thank you for your email.

I'm out of the office until Monday. I'll answer your questions fully [o]n Monday. Briefly, the motors are rated a 4.0 peak HP. Actual running HP is 2HP each and running amps are 18+. If the master blaster is plugged into a dedicated outlet you should be fine. Turn one motor on a time as opposed to "flicking" both switches on simultaneously.

Have a great weekend!
David

Regardless, I would highly recommend one, they are fantastic machines!

i bought a 179mph makita cordless and LOVE it. pricey but is light powerful and recharges very quickly. can blow out the garage floor and still have enough juice left to dry the entire car. has lithium-ion 18 volt battery. the unit battery and battery charger was $243 delivered from amazon. hope this helps.

Funny this post should appear because I was going to start one.

I just got the Air Force Master Blaster 8HP (MB-3CD) version and I am super impressed. I dried my Viper in about the same time but much more thorough and without ever taking a towel to the finish. I spent hours last year taking out the swirl marks and do not want them back.

I highly recommend 8HP - Master Blaster. :wow::applause:

BTW, Best price, I find, is at Gramma-Ellens for $299 and free shipping to boot. AutoGeek wants $315.

Also the talk about amp draw. I plugged into a standard socket and never popped a breaker.
