I've been using this for a while just ordered my 2nd bottle. My question is, Say I use a soap like blackfire wet diamond or CG blacklight to wash my car. Then I follow up with the 914 at WW dilution as a drying aid. Will the N-914 wipe the gloss enhancers in the soaps right off the car or not?

why not use something with no gloss enhancers to begin with?

Depends on strength of 914. If I remember right, there is a stripping dilution.

I tested the pH N914 1:128 with distilled water and it read 6.9. So, it's not going to strip your existing LSP. Will the cleaners remove the gloss enhancers? I don't know.

No i dont want the n914 to take the gloss enhancers off. Thats why I want to know if the 914 will remove them. If it does ill just use something else

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't use it as a drying aid in this situation.

You are just the man I wanted to hear from. You are the one that got me thinking this was a possibility. In one of your threads you mentioned something about the n914 possibly doing this or something similar. Thanks I think I'll stick with your advice until I hear otherwise on this one.

Actually I did ask this question in 1 of his threads, He might not of seen it. I send him the thread later.

I feel the blackfire waterless concentrate it's 1:48 ratio would be good for a drying aid in your situation.

A you sure? Are you talking about the time I used N-914 or D114 and removed the gloss enhancing "conditioners" left behind by D111 Shampoo Plus and brought back the beading to the paint? I'm guessing that's what you're referring to, if so then yes, I stand by my experience.

N-914 will not remove the gloss enhancers from the paint. :dblthumb2:

This is what I was referring to...

Update: Ok so I applied the Mckee's Paint Coating earlier this week and yesterday morning I got it wet and did a bucket wash. Here's the scoop.

1st time gettin wet.

Alright, at least I know I applied it correctly. This felt good.

Here's the trunk during the initial rinse.

I did a bucket wash with Meguiars D111 Shampoo Plus diluted @2oz. per 4 gallons water. I went over the horizontal panels ever so lightly as the car wasn't even that dirty. Here's what it looked like after I rinsed off the suds...

Hmm... Lets try that again.

I shot it a few more times with the water trying to decide what my reaction was going to be... I was doing my best to stay positive. But then once I did the final sheet rinse...

And here's what it looked like about 10-15 sec. later...

I'll admit I was pretty darn disappointed for just a bit, but I convinced myself to instead remain calm and think positive. Part of being positive about things meant not rushing to judgment, which is why I refrained from updating this post yesterday.

To be continued...

Ok, Update to the update: Fast forward to this morning. I did some thinking and I decided I'd give something a try based on my past experiences with it helping similar situations in the past. Meguiars D114@1:128. I doused the entire hood with D114 from a spray bottle. Very liberal, and let it dwell for just a minute or so, not too long.

Sprayed it down with the hoze nozzle on "shower" setting...

Batta bing batta bang! Beadings back!

It's a good thing I stayed positive. I knew D114 would work. Just another reason why I love it.

After the rinse I sprayed it with some Meguiars D155 Last Touch, and I'm happy to report that things appear to be back on course and looking good so far.

@Nick@Mckee's 37. So if the D114 [I'm assuming N-914 would work the same] didn't remove the Gloss enhancing conditioners, then what exactly happened? It certainly seemed to remove whatever was left behind by the car wash soap and restore the original beading.

I don't see how it could remove whatever was left behind by the soap, yet leave behind whatever gloss enhancers that were in it..

Perplexing.

I can offer a couple of conclusions:

1. Glossifiers - whatever they are - are not removed, but the specific glossifiers do not affect the hydrophobic properties of the coating. The other ingredients that did affect the hydrophobic properties were removed and the coating was restored.

2. The glossifiers and substances altering the hydrophobic properties were all removed.

I've personally noticed this with N914, D114 and Mystic Bubble shampoo.

... And it can remove polishing oils, but not gloss enhancers? How convenient...

Exactly how could it not remove the soaps gloss enhancers but clean at the same time. Gloss enhancers from a soap aren't very durable and d114 n914 clean well.

As Eldorado2k wrote, no sure why you'd use N-914 as a drying aide on top of something that adds gloss. I would do the opposite - use N-914 to clean and then use a QD or a spray wax as a drying aide (or Ech2O or anther waterless that adds gloss).

N-914 is essentially a soap. If you your gloss enhancing stuff isn't even dry yet, adding N-914 on top of it almost has to remove some of it. Not sure how you could expect ONR/UWW/Uber or whatever to add gloss when you add soap and before it's wiped dry. This is just a guess.

... And it can remove polishing oils, but not gloss enhancers? How convenient...

It does remove polishing oils when diluted 1:8 per the instructions on the bottle. This was by design.

It can be used as a waterless wash, or in this case a drying aid, when diluted 1:128. It will not remove polishing oils, waxes, gloss enhancers, etc at this dilution ratio. Again, be design.

Very convenient indeed. :xyxthumbs:

Just started to use N-914 but it's very obvious that it is not a clone of D114 as I was hoping. It beads on the surface wear as D114 has some type of wetting agent which causes it to flatten on the surface. N-914 also doesn't seem to attack bonded contamination as well, but does seam to dry much easier (lack of wetting agent I suspect) .

D114 was purpose built for decontamination and its cleaning power shows it. A bit disappointed in N-914 so far but very good at non-bonded contamination.
