Meg's DA MF system comments...

I say go back and use the MF pads on say setting 3 and see what kind of results your getting..I am sorry but speed 6 is WAY to fast..they say dont even use speed 6 on the PC. I personally think this was more user error then the pad problems..yes I heard the Flex doesnt finish down as good as when using the PC..but I think this is the first time I heard someone say they caused holograms and such.
 
I had planned on experimenting a little with my Flex 3401 on speeds 2 to 3. I do believe I saw a video where Jason from Meguiars says the pads will work on a Flex 3401. He might have meant will fit on a Flex 3401, but what he said and what he meant are 2 different things. In any case, I am determined to get them to work properly.
Will report back after the weekend.

I told you the MF pads were too grabby with the Flex, but you just wouldn't listen LOL! j/k

Have you tried the thicker polishing MF pad with the Flex? It works so much better than the cutting pads. Less grabbing, and just a more comfortable experience overall!

Also, speed 6 is bad news on these pads. Doesn't work very well at all. I experienced "balding" in the center of the pad, where the MF fibers get shorter and shorter towards the center of the pad. Plus the adhesive just can't handle those speeds without failing after a short amount of time. When I used the Flex DA, I've always concentrated the speeds around 3.5-4. Seems to be a decent speed point. Also, the "1 second per inch" movement factor is out the window, slow your hand movements down quite a bit and see how that does.

Slower tool speed, and slower hand speed=Better results! But this all depends on the paint you're working on.

I'd be more than happy to talk to you over the phone or something if that would help more.

I never doubted you, Nick. :props: I experienced "balding" as well. I'd rather not use a finishing pad to "cut". JMO. :)


I just tested the 3401 at speed 4, but it didn't cut nearly as good as the GG DA at speed 5. I used both with cutting discs. I've retired the Flex and MF system, it just doesn't work right. I'm really starting the like the GG DA with the MF system. :buffing:

I believe my exact words were "you're gonna love the Griots DA with the MF pads!" lol ;)

As for the finishing pads on the Flex, there is no difference between the cutting and finishing pads besides the foam. The MF material is exactly the same. I use the finishing pads with my Flex to cut all the time. I find it's less grabby, and really works well with those curved panels.

Are you using the DA Compound or M105 or what with the Flex?

I've been using the DA Compound.

According to Mike Stoops, the MF material is definitely different between the cutting and finishing disc. :dunno:

All I know is what I see. So he could be spot on. But I do know it does cut very well, but I prefer M105 over the DA Compound because it's a little stronger, Flex on about 3.5, and it seems to do a much better job. I'll use the DA Compound for a customer that just wants a polish or something quicker than a full correction job.

Try the M105 on the Finishing pad and see what you think. You can always wash it if you don't like it.

Hey Guys sooooooooooooo for paying customers do you sell this MF DA 2step system as a paint correction service or like a AIO+1 ?
Can anyone comment on if the Finishing Wax can be used as an AIO

Honestly, the DA MF just does not work well with the Flex 3401 at all, IMO. I REALLY like the 3401 too, but the "heavy" correction DA pads like surbuf and the DA MF cutting pads are most efficient with traditional DA's. As much as I never thought I would be saying this, I will be using a traditional DA for heavier cutting rather than the Flex 3401. I just can't seem to get the cut I want even with an orange pad, M105, and the Flex 3401.
