Thanks Buddy. Even if it last only a month and a half.....by that time I would hope the customer would come back for at least a wash and I can freshen it up. It would only take a few min to make it look good again,,,,,something that can set me apart from other guys that wouldn't touch it.

They are the same...only a name change last year (this from MOL)

... I believe the solvent has been changed on the Ultimate Black..]...While the product may be the same, if the solvent dries faster and is easier to use, that can make a big difference.

....With the Ultimate protectant,.....if you didn't work it in well enough and/or didn't use an extremely thin coat it would have trouble drying evenly. Thats why the spray version of Ultimate Protectant is soooo much better.

Yer input was really helpful. My 88 Civic said to say thanks.

I was going to try using the Ultimate Black sort of like a UP booster to save time and effort. From what you've shared , I guess I will use the UP Spray for those areas.

I guess that Ultimate Black will be my "go to" product for vertical trim that doesn't get so much of a beating from the elements. UP can be a lot of work on 20+ year trim.

Each one teach one...."you the Man" this time. :)

I know it was said that this product and Ultimate Protectant are the same product, but I believe the solvent has been changed on the Ultimate Black.

It was said on MOL that Ultimate Protectant was water based. But on the back of the Ultimate Black bottle it states that it contains Petroluim Distillates.

While the product may be the same, if the solvent dries faster and is easier to use, that can make a big difference.

With the Ultimate protectant, it is for sure Hydrophobic. But if you didnt work it in well enough and/or didn't use an extremely thin coat it would have trouble drying evenly. Which would cause it to be runny if it got wet, or leave water spots. I tested the product out a lot and noticed this. If you used to much it would not dry and would move around when wet.

Thats why the spray version of Ultimate Protectant is soooo much better. It contains Petroluim Distillates and drys fast and even, and beads water as well as being fool proof.
So which one is your favorite?

EDIT: Just realized this was an older thread.

Thanks for the review, Jimbo! Does it darken more than Sonus? I have a feeling the durabilty of UB won't be that great. We shall see...

Mark. I have found the Sonus to darken the same or a bit better. The Sonus does indeed outlast the Meg's making it my choice for this price range of trim dressings. The Sonus also spread much farther while being much more hydrophobic.
