Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System

Now wait a minute...I thought you had hopped on the Opt. MF bandwagon?
*Only for the Flex 3401*. They work better than the Meg's on the 3401, but I still think any MF pad definitely works better on a traditional DA. So, if I just had a traditional DA, I would go with the Meg's MF pads.

I just did my second vehicle yesterday with D300. And it was actually the first time I went straight to D301. It was my nieces car and she's a college student, so it didn't need to have the ultimate gloss or anything. It was quite swirled, though, with 70k miles on it and I talked her into getting a nearly-new finish. Turned out great!

My experience thus far with D300 has been on two GM vehicles (Suburban, Saturn Aura) and a 5-yr-old repaint. With 6 section passes (4 heavier, 2 lighter) and slow arm speed, I was able to remove all defects except some deeper water spot etchings and RIDS that were hard to see on the metallic paint on the Aura. The paint finishes down pretty nice for a compound and has very little dusting (I use compressed air to clean it after each panel or two). I'm also able to get by with very little taping. I actually didn't have to tape anything on the Aura. This is huge, because with M105 and a more aggressive pad, I need to tape A LOT and it dusts everywhere and doesn't finish down quite as nice and may need an extra buffing step.

I'm using the D300 in an exterior package that I recommend for daily drivers where I'm not trying to get every defect out. I call it the "silver" package. It's D300, M205 and PO85RD on most vehicles, though I have several other products if those aren't ideal. I used this process on my Suburban after wet sanding it and it's unreal.

I wrecked two of my three MF cutting pads and made it over the Aura with one 6" pad. It can be done, but takes a lot of cleaning and it dusts a lot by the end. Much faster to have at least 2-3 pads!

Thanks for the replies. I do not have compressed air, but will clean on the fly with a terry cloth.

D300 works great with rotary too, just tried it last night.

Instead of compressed air would the Metro Sidekick have enough force to get similar cleaning results? Just curious, I picked some MF pads up the other day and looking for a less cumbersome cleaning method without compressed air.

That's a very good idea!! Maybe it'll be better to ask the folks over at MOL.

The two times I used this system, I had trouble getting the correction compound off the vehicle. Am I using to much or to little compound?

Could be too much product or working it too long or even too large of a area.I use the rule of keeping my work area no wider then the width of my shoulders . Not only is that a large enough area its easier on the body.Tip given to me from Mike Phillips a long time ago and still important IMO. That is the reason to do a test spot and get your technique down before moving on to do the whole car. A very fine spritz of water can be very helpful. A clean working area is the key to the mf pad and can not be stressed enough. Pratice, pratice, pratice.:xyxthumbs:

Very informative. Are there other polishes you can sub out for D300? How comparable are D300 and m105?

D300 is less aggressive than M105. D300 is in between M105 and Ultimate Compound in the aggressiveness scale.

Would you all say m105 is easier to apply with MF pads than foam pads?

The mf cutting pad will remove defects quicker then say a orange lc foam or a hydro cutting pad. Don't know if thats what you mean by easier.

I agree!
It will also finish much better than a yellow pad! I only use MF to cut now.

This has been a great thread. I just received the VIP email that has the Meguiar's MF kit on sale. Unfortunately, only the 5 inch kit is on sale - I really want the 6 inch kit. Since it comes with the backing plate it may be worth it. It sounds like this is a great system. Did someone say the kit or the pads come with a cleaning brush?
