Meguiar's Headlight Protectant Review and Ongoing Longevity Test

I noticed that very faint hazing on my headlights that are in very good condition (year old, garaged- they're pristine). I finally figured out the haze was being caused by the repeated application of the megs headlight protectant (which i really like btw). The PlastX took off the haze so quickly and with such a small amount of work and light pressure, that I can't imagine that I was actually abrading the plastic (or factory UV layer). So now every couple of months (or after 2-3 applications of protectant) I hit it very lightly with the PlastX and then reapply the headlight protectant.

Seems to be a really nice combo for keeping them clear and protected. Use the protectant very sparingly and work quickly.

From now on I'm just gonna wax [sealant] them.. IME The Megs Headlight is more trouble than it's worth. It seems impossible to get a clean wipe off of this stuff. Like beyond anykind of polish or compound.. Adding more product in hopes of removing it simply doesn't work with it.
What exact dilution of IPA w/distilled water would be correct? Should I use 70% IPA? Or?

As cheap as IPA is, and for as little as it will take, I'd just mix an ounce of your 70 or 90 IPA 1:1 with water. Wet a corner of a towel with it and See if it works for you. If not, straight IPA and have a wet towel (water) to wipe off the IPA immediately after. If it doesn't work, PlastX is cheap and extremely effective.

Last I remember megs headlight protectant is not a wipe on wipe off product . You work the product in never letting it dry and then buff with another towel.

Yea, that's how I've been using it.. And that pretty much sounds like a wipe on, wipe off product to me.

I also would call it wipe on-wipe off. It doesn't take much. Dime sized amount per headlight is more than enough.

This is the exact definition of wipe on wipe off.

I finally took it off just now... After putting it off/giving it plenty of thought I narrowed it down to either Megs Cleaner Wax [A12] or M205. [I don't have PlastX]
I ended up going with M205 on a microfiber towel and it cleaned it up real fast and easy just like you said. Man it looks so much better now! It had been bugging me for a while everytime I looked at the car because I would always focus on the headlights.. But they're crystal clear again.:) Now I'll just apply sealant.

Going to put this here. But Meguiar's Headlight Protectant has been discontinued

Meguiar's Headlight Protectant

That's an interesting development.. I think it's a good call.

I remember a while back while at the Meguiars Garage someone was pulling 1 of the Meguiars company vehicles and I asked Michael Stoops if they had applied anything specific onto the headlights of that new car in order to maintain them new & clear.. He looked at me and just shook his head as if he was surprised by the question and said no. I should've took that as an indicator. Lol.

I was always pleased with the product and think it worked very well. I wonder why it's going away.

I thought you mentioned the same issue I was having with it?^
It seems like you were able to look past that minor drawback.. IMO it's not really worth the trouble when I can apply sealant and not have to worry about ending up with that possible layer of haze. Plus I'm not too fond of having to rub the new headlights any harder than I have to. [no buffing required with sealant]

I used to use opti-lens but now using gtechniq c4 trim coat.
