WOW...really disappointed in the quality. First it quits half way through its second car. The only thing I could really check was the brushes. I take the first one out and it's fine...go to put it back in and the tiny plastic threaded piece that holds the screw in place breaks. It was just a small piece that broke out. I figured it was possible that it started crooked and that's why it broke. I figured while it's not very probable (I am very mechanically inclined) it is possible that was my fault... ok it still threads in I'll make it work... I check the second brush and as I'm trying to line the screw up to put it in the same small plastic piece breaks into three pieces. Come on!!! I wasn't even really putting pressure on it...just trying to line up the threads. Unbelievable!!

Get a Porter Cable. Mine has been working fine without a single problem.

It's almost like an industrial tool, you can drop it and go on like nothing happened.
The Griot's has a lot more power, but the PCxp is more reliable.

It's probably just the handle...put to me the Griot's looks an awful lot like the Meguires...PCxp it's going to be.

Just for the record, some Porter Cable units are made in China as well. Also, for the record, China can produce really reliable products.

I agree...just tired of seeing all the US manufacturing jobs go over there!!

As I said somewhere in one of these threads, I think there is a big difference in products manufactured in the manufacturer's plant in China, vs. a product that is contract-manufactured in China (of course surely there are exceptions to that, as well).

It seems to me during the time that I have been on detailing forums (since 2004), that Porter Cable moved the manufacturing of the PC from their US plant to a plant they built in Mexico. Are you saying that it has now been moved to China?

EDIT: I did a little searching and found this nugget in a 2007 press release: "With its manufacturing operation centralized in Jackson, Tenn., Porter-Cable operates a second manufacturing facility in Steinheim, Germany, where its products are produced and sold throughout Europe under the FLEX brand name."

But I also found this: "However, Black & Decker's purchase of Porter-Cable in 2005, and then the subsequent buyout of Black & Decker by Stanley in 2009, now means that Porter-Cable tools are being made overseas with Mexico or China being the most common origin. The Jackson, Tenn., plant now functions primarily as a distribution center and currently employs over 3,000 people."

My original PC's say "Made in USA"; for people who have XP's, where were they made?
