Menzerna PO85rd

I agree with you 100% 07 z-oh-6 - The only reason I can think of where you'd need to use 85rd after 205 is when you've used 205 with a cutting pad and there's hazing/halos on the surface.
Can you finish down with 205 and a grey pad after a cutting pad or would 85rd be a better choice? Also, can you finish down with 205 on black paint?

Every paint is different. On some soft paints(Porsche/Bently/Rolls) I've had problems finishing down with 205. I've never had a problem using 85rd with a finishing pad on any paint. On some clears I've been unable to see any difference with either one. Next time you think the paint looks great after 205, try 85rd and compare. You might be surprised.

Very interesting. So is it safe to say that after an orange pad and 105, or any cutting compound, you should be able to use 85rd w/ finishing pad as your next step? Basically, replace 205 with 85rd.

With a DA, Yes. I still love 205 and use it all the time. It's the 1st finishing polish I reach for.

Reason why I asked, I was having problems removing marring with 205(gray pad) on soft paint(following 105/orange) with the Flex 3401. If I used 85rd instead, I probably wouldn't have had this problem.

Exactly. With a blue pad would be best, imho.

Cool, thanks.

What speed with the 3401? 4?

:xyxthumbs: Sorry .......... 2-3 and no more. You may even want to go with a white or gray pad since the blue may be a little soft. I've just gotten into the habit of using the blue with this polish. Great results either way.

Why only speed 2-3? Will higher speeds cause marring?

Thanks for the reply. I alway's finish down with 85rd after 205 on darker paints.

When using a rotary, you can't skip from a compound to 85rd, but when using a Flex 3401 you can? This would be generally speaking.

PC or a Flex doesn't make a difference for a polish as long as the rpm speed is kept within the polish's working parameters.

The best combination would be the Menzerna Power Finish followed by the PO85RD ....... this allows for the same results as if you had gone the route of a 3 stage polish job.

Higher speeds will cause the polish to break down too quickly thus not allowing for it to work as it should.
Then why do I get great results with 85rd on a rotary @ 1200rpm?

I was referring to what the product mfg suggests. I usually spritz the foam pads before polishing just to get a little time out of the product.

What setting is 1200 rpm? 3?

Depends on what rotary. So, does Menzerna recommend a speed for 85rd using a Flex DA?

In many instances (through experience), you can use M105 via rotary and finish 100% with 85rd. Pad, speed and technique are all factors.

Menzerna states speed 2-3 & AG staes the following:

Polish at 1200-1800 RPM (5000-6000 OPM on a dual action polisher) working slowly across and then up and down the area. Check your work after several passes to see if the defects have been removed. If so, reduce the pressure and continue buffing until a high gloss is achieved. If the pad becomes dry, mist it with water and continue buffing.

I have always stayed within 1200 - 1500 rpm

I'm looking at a bottle of 85rd and no where does it state to use speed 2-3. It states using 1200-1800 rpm.
