Ugh! I just checked TRC website to see how much I could have saved with the 20% off deal and I must have missed the 16x16 Spectrum 420 (plush dual pile) towel! They are only $2.45 EACH when you buy 5 or more!! Any of you guys use them? Really considering making a purchase with them now because I have wanted to try the Dry Me a River !towel anyway.

Yep they're having a nice little sale right now. If you just want the Dry Me a River towel, pm me and I'll send you one.

+1 I use A LOT of towels when I'm detailing. "work clean"
Hey Tony, the 2 totes of blues on the ground and the 1 tote of grey towels on top right of picture are edgeless from MFT,'and yes they are top notch towels as well, but they cost me 10% more for sales tax and then extra for shipping. Also, if you ever want to split a case on some towels in the future, let me know.

I gotta' say... you got it BAD dude!
We should start a towel website, call it 'towelheads'. :buffing:

Next time I'm thinking about an order on something I don't have I'll keep your offer in mind. ;)

Last time a member here said he wanted to split cases I ended up with ALL of them.:eek: He, otoh went to Detail Fest and then never offered to pay for them.

- T705GYB Extra Fluffy Microfiber Quick Detail & Waterless Wash Cloth 700gsm 16''x16 - 1 side Blue 1 side grey with black silk edge

I can tell you which ones will do the job there. :)
Love the 530's!
360's in gold, black edge are usable for everything.
Hemmed edge 360's are IMO, a waste of money, (when you can get the others for considerably less).
The ultra-fine units are nice, just don't have paint that the others scratch, ergo it's hard to justify that cost as well. But that ultra-fine material is very nice.
The Korean 470's are actually 513's (470 was the name he used with what he got in 2013 the first time he ever ordered them, and since has gone TOTALLY to the newer, better fabric).
The 700's, while fluffy, and are great to get light dust off with, will lint no matter WHAT you do. Have plenty of them, they all lint. Can use them to dust with, then go back with another unit, the Korean 500's, Chinese 530's, or a fine thread unit and do the final wipe.

Ha Ha, yes I do have it bad. But this forum and it's members understand. My wife is always asking "do you have enough yet" and I always respond with "I'll never have enough"
But as many detailing products as I have, doesn't compare to my Cigar collection, but that's a while other animal.

Let's not get the wives involved lol

Owning a detail shop requires a lot of MF towels, on an avg. day I'll go through 30 towels each day.

For removing compound , polish, sealant or any last step I use 600 GSM
As for general cleaning I use the 360 GSM.

Basically anything that touches the paint I only use the 600 GSM to avoid swirls.
After wet sanding I prefer using the 360 GSM towels, easier to wring out.
Each night I wash and dry the towels I used to not let them just sit there for a few days, I try my best to prevent them from staining.
I'm not sure how many I have on hand but just guessing I'd say 250-300 towels total.

Tell ya' what Kevin, you can get with Don (Fly07sti) and I bet he has just a couple of extra's he'd send your way. ;)

I'm surprised you don't actually have more towels than you do. I easily have 200+ (before the ever changing/growing/shrinking stack of 'utility towels' from Costco).

So which 600's are you using? The reason I ask is that all I've seen so far are the dual plush design, big and fluffy on both sides (like the 600 and 700's from MFT). I've found that I prefer the dual nap design like the 360's have, (short loops and long loops) for all compound/polish removal, and am a big fan of the 530's for that on soft paint. (Otherwise the 360's tend to do just fine, not just for compound/polish but LSP too with the exception of the really soft paint that is.) I also find that those big fluffy (both side) units tend to lint no matter what you do with them.

Just curious what 600's you've found, might be something I need to try. :props:

Yeah, I figure Don certainly has an affection for microfiber towels, that is PERFECTLY clear! Wonder if Ian would bill to an out of state account, then ship to "in state"? Would save sales tax on that end for sure. Hmmmmmm......

Yea I ordered 3 of each because it caused most of the towels to drop under $4 per a towel. I wanted to try a variety of mainly 360 gsm towels to see which I liked using the best.

I ordered:

- T535BB 16''x16'' Extra Plush Elite Microfiber Towels - 530 gsm - 75.25 - Blue Cloth Banding
- T365BH 16''x16'' Elite Hemmed Edge Microfiber Towel - 360gsm - 75.25 - Blue
- T365BE 16''x16'' Elite Zero Edge Microfiber Towel - 360gsm - 75.25 - Blue
- T407BE Elite Ultra Fine Microfiber Detailing Towel 16''x16''- 400 gsm - 70.30 - Blue zero edge
- T507BS Elite Ultra Fine Microfiber Towels - 500 gsm - 16''x16'' - 70.30 - Blue Silk
- T365BS1624 16''x24'' Elite Microfiber Detailing Towel - 360 gsm - 75.25 - Blue w/ blue silk edge
- TPK470GYE 16''x16'' Extra Fluffy Korean Microfiber Detailing Towel - Zero Edge - 470 GSM - Grey Zero Edge
- T705GYB Extra Fluffy Microfiber Quick Detail & Waterless Wash Cloth 700gsm 16''x16 - 1 side Blue 1 side grey with black silk edge

Thats whats great about AGO we can discuss items from other places and not get told about it. DR. Shine on another site ( as he says ) will nip it in the a$$ :)

Who ME?

I'm not a "pro" either.

And that's not all of my microfiber collection! :D
(Had a dirty box full, a load in the washer, another bin, and a trunk half full when I shot this pic.) Added more since then as well.

I agree, you can do pretty much anything you need with the MFT 360gsm towels. They'll remove compound, polish, even LSP. I would say though to get some of the 530's. They are the baby blue ones in that bin on the right, and on the far left on the bottom shelf next to the gray Korean edgeless. Between those and the 360's you're covered for most everything. They'll even make good drying towels! :) I like the MFT 530's much MUCH better than the Cobra 530's (triple folded, far right, on top of the white boxes) as they are quite a bit softer.

I would say however that everyone needs at least a 'few' Korean 500 edgeless (the gray ones on the shelf and in the bin on the floor). They're always good for QD duties, and light dusting. Also work with final wipe of any LSP before delivery. I do have some of the dual-plush 700's (on the right side of the Korean gray's) and they are GREAT for removing dust, but they'll lint when you least want it.

One that I like a lot lately is the "White Whale" (850gsm) as well as both the towels from Duragloss. They are both exactly the same, just different sizes. Not cheap at all, but a really nice towel. Their construction is similar to the "Blue Whale" (1100gsm) sewn around the edge, and across on the X & Y axis. They are softer, have deeper (and looser nap) and easier to work with than the "blue whale". (FYI there are 2 of the blue whale's on the top shelf, left side, dark blue with silver border.)

Where did you get the grey Korean edgeless towels?

Those are the ones from MFT. Ian still calls them 470's because that is what the first ones he tried were back in 2012. But since early last year they've actually been more like 513 GSM units.

They are heavier, thicker and softer than the orange Eagle Pro units from TRC. (And cheaper too.) ;)

Same price. Eagles are inconsequentially almost the same weight (listed as 480, could be less, could be more), and $4.60 each for ten, with free USPS Priority shipping.

You won't go wrong with either, though I prefer the feel of the Eagles. Perhaps it's the blend (70/30 vs 80/20) but I don't know that for sure.

Any suggestions for this situation: I have a 2 1/2 yo that LOVES to wash/detail with me...really, he goes BONKERS if he can't come out and help. What do you think, 800gsm towel? Not to sound like a jerk, but I don't want to work my tail off, and have him come behind me with a cheap towel and marr/scratch the paint.

What do you like as a drying towel? Also, are the grey 360's with the red border ok for basic polish removal?

What he needs is one of those battery powered JEEP's (my girl had a Barbie JEEP), a Big Wheel, wagon, pedal car, something... ANYTHING that keeps him busy doing something other than laying hands on "Daddy's" car!

Sure, you could give him a $15.00 towel and let him 'have at it', but what happens when he lays it down on the driveway, throws it in the yard, wipes the wheels and tires with it or....... wipes the dog with it? Now you've got an expensive towel that ruined, a paint job that's (on the way to) ruined, and most likely a kid that's about to be screaming (again) and a wife that's about to go bonkers on the both of you. :D

Me thinks getting him his 'own ride' and letting him take care of it, soap and water going everywhere, while Daddy does his car would be something that'll be fun for everyone. (Plus imagine all the neat photos you'll get with the two of you working on your 'rides'.) ;)

CarMomma just said something (with a giggle) "He's not going to fold it correctly to keep the edges from putting swirls in the paint."

He's got one Bruther Tony, but looses interest in it and wants to "help" me.

I'd go with the gold ones over the black/gray because they are actually a bit softer. OTOH, I find nothing wrong with the 360's for all but the most butter soft paint.

Drying towel?
One that I like is the Cobra (foam core) Guzzler here from Autogeek. (About the only AGO towel, but it's a good one.) ;) Any Korean waffle weave will be a good choice as well.

Also, the 530's from Microfiber Tech are fairly good drying towels. Ian used to have them in a larger size, might ask him if he's getting them in again in that size but the 16x16 ones work just fine. Then if you really want to splurge you can check out the Zanio blondes or the excellent towels from Duragloss. Both the Duragloss towels are the same thing, just that one is larger. They are CRAZY expensive though!

Doggone it Steve, I remember that John Deere now. That was one of your first posts brother! :)

I'd say best bet with the M is to let him work on the wheels and tires. Tell him he's your lil' man, Daddy can't get down that low, and what a big help it is. Heck.... my 21 year old.... that is STILL his job! He's my wheel specialist! Heheheeeee......

For a drying towel the cobra guzzler is a very good towel but I find that IME and IMHO the Mothers WW is better.......and to be honest depending on what I'm doing I do not reach for a drying towel that often anymore

:iagree:with my friend Tony here on the most part........I will tell you that the best bang for the buck here at Autogeek for towels are the rolled edge ones(hemmed ones at MFT). Identically the same.......a great all around multi-use paint towel.

I will also agree about the Duragloss towels (polishing towel) it is simply the greatest towel that I reach for , for the final buff, yes they are VERY expensive but I love using them. (you just have to know where to buy them at half the price of DG & Autogeek sells them):D
