I'm hoping Chevy actually expands the Corvette line into two separate cars; a traditional front engine, RWD sports car and a mid-engined, whatever drive car.

While the Z06 and the Viper are amazing cars by all accounts it seems they are starting to hit the limits of what their traditional engine/drive layout can deliver. If Chevy wants to dip their toes in the super car market they are going to have to do something different. On the other hand, the Corvette has always been a unique beast able to deliver performance for cost like nothing else on the market. I hope Chevy doesn't abandon that place in the market.

I'll never hit a point in my life where I could own a supercar, but I could see myself taking rank with the stereotypical Corvette owner (older, empty nest type) in due time. Although a Cayman is a pretty nice option as well...

Holy Moley! It's a darned good thing I was wearing loose fitting shorts when I read that article!!

Officially still a concept (several test mules are out)... but Fords GT certainly a thorn to GM. I suspect it's not to far off this time.

Viper is currently DOA ... plant closes at years end. The new ACR model was supposed to be the last bang.

Looks like a killer but it's kinda underpowered for a car tat is not even in production. The ctsv has more hp.my personal opinion is all wheel drive, that can compete with the rest of the gtr and Lamborghini etc.If they can give it more power and more of a racetrack car and keep the cost down they have a winner.Still a beautiful automobile.

I just hope its called Corvette something or another, not ZR1. IMO they should honor the father of the car and called it the ZORA and drop the mic:props:

I hope it doesn't look like that bottom image. That looks like a C6 meets a last generation NSX. I would think it would have more radical lines than a C7. We shall wait and see. Maybe the test mule is wearing generic body panels to completely throw off us speculators.

I'm hoping the Corvette has some of the awesome design elements as the Ford GT, LaFerrari, McLaren P1, or Porsche 918. These cars are art:)

Wow, they actually went through with it! Can't wait to learn more.

What about the Corvette "Earl" or "Harvey":)
Harley Earl designed 2 of the greatest cars EVER, the original Sting Ray and the 63' Riv, both came out the same year even. That said Zora was the perf guy, engineered perf into the car, even pushed for it and did things "on the side", kind of a renegade, the name should be ZORA, it sounds more exotic too

That looks like the runt of a Corvette litter LOL!
Ewwwww......obviuosly some great photo shopping
or something or other going on there.
That's not too atypical of some
of the modern-day, mid-engine
vehicles', styling cues.

Not really my cup-o'-tea.

I heard an interesting theory on this...

This writer thought that GM may decide to make this mid-engine Corvette a Cadillac instead (think Cadillac XLR). This kind of makes sense, when you consider what the starting base price for this car will probably be ($90,000+). This way you can develop the mid-engine technology, and you don't alienate your loyal Corvette buyers.

That makes sense on many fronts. It may show GM is willing to put Caddy farther into direct competition with other luxury brands. I don't see this car competing with the likes of McClaren or Lamborghini, but I could see it go after the NSX, R8, Evora, or even 911 if done right and priced in the $100K ~ $250K range.

GM's biggest hurdle will be brand perception. Will people even look at a super car with a Caddy badge on the hood? Will a "super Vette" resonate with the super car crowd? The Vette has always had a pretty clear spot in the auto market and it was very good. This takes them into a new market. The Ford GT has always been such a small production run car I don't see it as ever being a true competitor on the market. It's more of a collector item than anything else.

That doesn't really make any sense. A Caddy-only version would have too small a market to cover the development costs, besides that, the XLR was a failure, as well as the Allante, for those that remember that. The XLR tried to leverage the Corvette technology (for a market that didn't exist), not the other way around.

I would be surprised if C/D was wrong on this. On the other hand, this wouldn't be the first time GM rode a concept right up to a production decision, and killed it and fell back on something more conventional.

Maybe it's me, and just my opinion, but after 1973, I feel GM's design team has compromised every corvette right up till current day.

While there has been some very nice rides after that, and sure, I'd take me one,...or three. But in some way, all seemed to me to miss the mark somehow.

The '74 was a real "Bow Wow" in my opinion, and some of the mid-late 80's also looked like ass IMO.

I remember my cousin having a black '86, and yep, I drove it, I detailed it a number of times for him. Cool in a way, but underpowered IMO, and was so loaded with defects, I recall the dealer having the car more than he did. He wisely dumped it but two years later.

Now here's some nice styling, and I could probably post a 100 pics, of some nice concepts, and so could others.
