Has anyone ever tried mixing FG400 with M105? I would imagine it would extend the working time of the 105 but was just curious?

I know some fellas were mixing m105 with something to extend working times. I thought it was 205.

I have yet to mix these two products, and probably never will.
-Two different "types" of abrasives.
-Two different "burn-in qualities" of these different abrasives.

Doesn't even seem that it would be very cost effective, let alone allowing for any extended working time(s),
at least in my way of thinking.

Just curious: what would be the purpose?

Working time for M105 and M205 can easily be extended with just a spritz of distilled water!

Mixing a diminishing abrasive compound with a non-diminishing abrasive compound sounds like a recipe for disaster!

If you want to mix something to extend the working time, use Meguiars ultimate compound. But take note that it wont be bodyshop safe anymore.

I've mixed at 2 parts m105 to 1 part uc, it lengthened the working time almost infinitely. They are similar products, and do play nicely together.

I think M105 and UC use the exact same kind of abrasives(could be wrong) just with different concentrations and carriers.

Yes they do, but the ultimate cut has more oils. Maybe to make it more user friendly? I know the working time is much longer with uc over m105.

I have mixed m105 with d300 when I need more cut, both SMAT. Like others have said I wouldn't mix FG with 105.

Seems that no one has tried it. Well I just bought a nice 2000 expedition that cost me next to nothing and is in serious need of paint correction. I'm just going to resale this car so this will be my test subject (starting on the roof) Meg105/FG400 reviews to come.

I have already performed a test area with Meg D151 which will be what is used throughout.

So...
Is it going to be the D151; the M105/FG400 combo; or both?

Yeah :whs:

Honestly.... I see no reason what-so-ever to mix two drastically different base materials, IE: SMAT & DAT. :dunno:

I've primed a pad with 101 for using 105. Same with UC and 105.
Also mixed 105 with both, with D300, with 151. Actually 151 ends up taking cut away, but being as it's still a good 5~6 even mixed 1:1 that'd be a 7.5 on the cut scale.

I can say that 151 and 105 doesn't tend to work that well. I'm thinking because 105 (and 101 by default) is designed to work quick, hard, and fast. Where 151 works for pretty much as long as you want to work it, BUT has wax in it as well. Perhaps something to do with the wax, but I'd rather mix it (105) with D300 or UC if I want cut but longer working times.

Mixing 151 with 205 gives 205 a bit more cut, where 205 with 101/105 would make it have quite a bit less cut.

All at least work similar as it's all SMAT.

Just can't see where DAT/SMAT would work at all because one works forever before it does what it's supposed to do, (finishing down) and the other if you try to work it that long just ends up with the abrasives getting bigger and bigger and bigger as spent product and paint builds up around the particles. Sounds like an invitation to a micromarring party. ;)

I'll end up doing the entire the vehicle with D151 but I want to play with the Fg400/105 mixture. It might be a waste of time, I would just like to know since they're 2 of the most common compounds used.

I've used 105 & 205 together.
3 small drops of the 105 and one drop of 205.
Yes It gave me longer work time but wondered how much cut it cost me.
Results turned out great though.

I also did the same adding a drop of UC and again good results.
Is it wrong to do so?, not if it feels right for you, that's all that counts:)

I really don't know why people don't use Rupes polishes.. Like Zephir kicks FG400 in the pants. I threw out my Menz and switched over to the full rules line.

My Rupes mini kit arrived today so I'll be trying Zephir and Keramik for the first time. Any tips or tricks using Rupes polishes and pads or is it pretty much a reliable color matched system? Do you use pads other than Rupes pads with Rupes polishes or visa versa?

I wonder if Menzerna FG 400 has been out on the consumer market long enough, in order to deserve that "most common compound used" claim...
over the compounds from the likes of 3M, Optimum, PoorBoy's, Sonax, and even other Meguiar's compounds...among many others mentioned on this forum?

Are you using these strictly on a Rupes? Or will they work on other machines? IE: gg, porter cable, megs... etc...

Tips, hmm make sure if you use that coarse blue to prime it carefully. Its very coarse and when you first switch it on, it can sling. You will get use to it. As far as other pads? Yes. I use all sorts of combinations, but with that being said the Rupes pads are very good.

No I like zephir on a rotary and wool. It can take out really deep scratches and sanding marks faster than FG, not to mention it doesn't stink like FG. You can use it on other Da polishers no problem.
