So I've been coming across a few posts here and there of people saying they actually mix polishes...like mixing 105/205 to kinda create an cut/polish combo instead of doing 2 separate passes. Now of course i know Meguiars would say this is a no no....and it isnt something i'd do on EVERY car...i usually use D151 for my AIO...but i am curious as to how/if a little 105 mixed up with it could give it a little extra edge as far as cutting power.

So is there anyone who can comment on this (good or bad?)

Not a proper response to your question but isn't Meg's Ultimate Compound nicely between the 105 and 205 in terms of capability? Not sure if you can get it by the gallon, but it's really a great value otherwise. To most consumers it leaves an acceptable finish, but certainly not going to get you to 100%.

Ultimate Compound is more like a retail version of 105 and Ultimate Polish is like a retail version of 205.

UC has quite a bit more work time than M105 and wipes off much easier. I can also use UC in full sun whereas I would never try that with M105.

I actually mixed some Menzerna PG w/ the last bit of XMT4 I have in the bottle and it smoothed out the abrasives in XMT4 allowing it to finish with less haze and a deeper gloss that the Menz PG does on its own. I have mixed some polishes (PBW pro polish and XMT 2) on the pad to get some correction and finish in the same pass. But as far as mixing a compound with a finishing polish, I don't think I would really save anythig by doing so. I would probably go back and finish it with a gray pad and a finishing polish on its own. JMO. I am sure what we do isn't much different from what the chemist do to get a product the way they/detailers want it. Just we aren't making the stuff from scratch. Would love to visit Dr.G's lab in TN and have a peek some of the process.:)

Mixing 105/205 won't give it an edge as far as cutting power but I did notice on a 50/50 mix more working time with less dusting still having great cut just not 105 cut

I second that. I sometimes prime my pad with 205, then go about using the 105. I find it helps spread, and keeps 105 from chalking up too quick.

On days with a good amount of humidity in the air...I just prime with 105 cause it tends to last a bit longer anyways. I know...I'm strange, haha. But I swear on dry days, that stuff just turns to street chalk.

Mixing is for hacks

You're trying to overcome what you perceive as a product deficiency by blending two or more products specifically designed by Chemical Engineers for a specific purpose. Not a good idea, even if it kinda works. Find a different product.

BTW Flash, that's one of the most intelligent things I've heard anyone say. :dblthumb2:

Back on topic, I think Optimum has actually stated that mixing 70% PoliSeal with 30% Polish II adds more cut to the PoliSeal. I haven't personally tried this but I'm sure others have.

Yes chris at optimum suggested that to me and it works great, but I am a hack, because there already is the best possible chemical solution for every paint system/situation that I've ever come across......I just mix stuff so I can hack up my customers cars for fun :)

I was being nice, but OK. Quit smoking crack in the morning? :poke:
