Mk5 Headlight Restoration done by Etiennè

Everyone knows that I totally LOVE headlight resto's Just thought I'd share my latest one with all of you. Booked this Mk5 for yesterday ( Sunday ) morning around 9. It took me about 75mins from start to finish :grin:

I taped the lights off and sanded them down. After sanding this is what they looked like

After this I polished them up, gave them a wipedown and applied my home-made UV Sealant

Matter of few minutes and they were looking brand new again. Not only does this improve the overall look of the vehicle, but night time visibility is restored aswell

Looks great.. Want to do this to my car.. Read I should use a clear coat to make it last.. Any advice on what to use?

What materials did you use? Levels of sandpaper, polish....I wont bother to ask what your home made UV protection consist of.

I have read somewhere on this forum some horror stories on clearcoated lights. Do your research before going that route

On these I ranged from 600-3000 gritt, polished with Menz FG400 followed by Menz SF4000. My sealant is similar to the Helsman spar urethene ( spelling ) mixture on this forum, only with substitute products available in South Africa

I sand by hand. Would love to have a machine sander, but the price they go for, compared to the price I can charge for a headlight resto, maths doesn't add up
