Most regretted detailing product purchase

What didn't you like about white wax? I had great results with it using a cutting pad on a DA to remove some pretty severe defects. What was your technique. What compound polish are you referring to?
 
Ditto on liking White wax. Removes scratches and marks. I love it for door handle recessed areas to remove nail marks, etc.
 
CG Diablo Gel (While it works for light cleaning, it's waaaay overpriced) I bought a gallon of it too. So will use it somehow eventually lol.
CG Signature Glass Cleaner (I only got a small bottle, but it's a okay glass cleaner, nothing special.) I'll use up what I have but I won't be buying more of it.
CG Trim Gel (This stuff is just super geasy to work with, and always runs off the trim onto the side of the paint leaving an oil residue when it rains) The plastic stays protected, but it just ruins the finish on my paint. So I have to clean it every time, because it looks terrible. (I got almost a full bottle of it. No idea if I will go through it or not lol)
Salt Remover (Not sure who makes it, but it sucks. Doesn't do anything remotely close to removing salt stains. Terrible product (It was suggested to me by my best friend, maybe I should disown his ass) lol
CG V32 (Only because I have no use for it right now lol.) I've used 34,36, and 38 and I like them. They work well.
CG Butter Wet Wax, (While I do like it for cleaning stains, it works really well for that, and any glue from like removing stickers.) It's not that interesting as a wax. I have about half a bottle left, probably won't buy more.

May seem like I am bashing CG, but I have a lot of their products most of which I like. :)
 
I don't regret purchases so much.
I look at it as product testing and direct experience with a product.
There are always products that will impress you and disappoint you.

One of the most disappointing detailing products I have ever purchased is FOLEX.

- Dilution ratios.
- Neutral scent.
- Useful for machines such as extractors and steamers.
- Water based.
- Universally available at most hardware stores.

Cons:
- Poor performance as carpet cleaner.
- Poor performance as upholstery cleaner.
- Lots of product and labor to get this product to perform.

Recommend for detailing?
No!

Summary:
This product has been a total dud for me.
Have used it:
- On carpet, upholstery, and headliners,and the carpet inside my house.
- In conjunction with steam and extraction.
- Multiple specs of microfiber towels.
- Multiple types of scrub brushes.
- Multiple dilution ratios mixing with distilled water only.
This product is simply a fail in my experience.
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would give it a 2, because it is technically better than using just plain water.

I've had a few products that didn't give the results I expected but it worked and I had no issue using the product until it was done. The products that I'm still upset about is the CG Diablo Wheel cleaner and the CG foam cannon stopped working after 6 months, The "customer service" sent me steps to fix it. I tried it and still nothing. 2nd response I got from them was pretty much to buy a new one at full price.

Chemical Guy's Diablo Gel is weaker than just using car wash soap for the wheels. Totally disappointing.
 
I didn't like meguiars gold class leather wipes . Made my seats squeak and left a greasy feel for a long time . Even developed a Crack in one of my seats which is why we condition leather. Use adams cleaner /conditioner now and couldn't be happier.

no doubt, ill take it too ^^^ . About 15 years ago i managed the flooring dept at Home Depot and I would demo this to employees and customers on the whitest carpet I could find.
I would take a Sharpie permanent marker and draw a line. No other product in the store would even do anything but Folex removed about 99% of it.
Also you dont dilute it.
Spray on the spot, let it dwell, agitate some with finger or toothbrush, spray a bit more, agitate again then blot up/wipe with clean towels. Might take a few applications to take off the shittiest stains but has always worked great.
1 case it had a very hard time to lighten a stain for about 10 try's through out a year, basically I mixed in some of that flavored powered in water ( red fruit punch flavor) and split it on my beige carpet in living room. I immediately reacted but still took a long time to remove/lighten the stain and even in the end, I could still kind of see it but the new buyer didn't. Damn those artificial Red colorings

I bought a complete POS wheel brush at Pep Boys just to avoid paying 30 dollars for a Speed Master Wheel Brush because I thought it was too much money for "a freaking brush". Well, the Pep Boys brush lasted exactly 2 washes before breaking and the two times I did use it was a horrendous experience.

Ordered the Speed Master through AG and it arrives today. Lesson learned

You know, sometimes a product that works well for you in general use is not a good product for a specific use. Carpet cleaning supply dealers sell products specifically made to remove red dye stains. It's probably a better way to go.
 
I don't regret any one specific item ( well I do but I wont call out names). But I do regret buying so many products based solely on the exaggerated hype of frankly some of you, but its my fault. The best thing ive done is to ask some of you pros your advice, which ALL of you that i speak with are awesome thanks. Im really working on simplifying my arsenal and not reacting to any hype. Again thanks to the guys who have PATIENTLY answered some questions for me.

Gyeon trim coat.compared to dlux the gyeon is not stackable right away over a hr wait time.Gtech dries in 10 minutes as well as dlux.very tacky and drag when applying it.Gyeon makes quality products but can't use that to hard to work with wanted to try it out.Dlux is constantly out of stock and Gtech needs more sheen.I will stick to dlux.

The overhyping of products is a complete turn-off for me. As much as I didn't mind any of the hyped stuff I used in the past, I'll probably never buy/try them again.

That being said, I'm continually refining my techniques with the products I use.

LOL. When I looked up trim coatings, everybody was harping the Gyeon Trim
My experience was the same as yours

How did it look when cured.

I applied Solutions finish. Looked great. Nice and black.
Applied Gyeon Trim a couple days later figuring whatever was in SF might needed to completely cure out/flash out.
Trim was still looking great however, after curing, while glossy and hydrophobic, it seemed to have lost some of the black and more of a dark grey,

Yep. I found 4 or 5 products that I like and I'm sticking with them. Not buying the hype anymore.

I put the car in the garage last night.This morning it looks terrible streaks everywhere and when you drag your finger across it it leave a impression.followed directions to a t waited over a hr for second coat and made sure it was applied with no high spots.I will be nice and just simply throw it away.Going to try c4 over it,if it looks like crap I will have to paint now .
