Most regretted detailing product purchase

Or wait for some dlux as autogeek runs out of this stuff like its for free.

I don't regret any one specific item ( well I do but I wont call out names). But I do regret buying so many products based solely on the exaggerated hype of frankly some of you, but its my fault. The best thing ive done is to ask some of you pros your advice, which ALL of you that i speak with are awesome thanks. Im really working on simplifying my arsenal and not reacting to any hype. Again thanks to the guys who have PATIENTLY answered some questions for me.
KISS=Keep it simple (steve)

This. So many lessons learned as a newbie. I need to a "don't be like me" post for other newbies. Too many products. None were terrible (maybe back to black), but no need for so many different products.

I have too many products as well for what I do. I don't regret buying them, because finding what works for you and your vehicle's can be a challenge I suppose.

I wish I were one of those guys who can say "I use nothing but the Menzerna line!" but I can't. It's mixed and matched. Unfortunately, I have polishes and cleaners that I don't use anymore simply because I like others better.

Products I've truly regretted buying:

-Carpro Fog Fight: didn't work at all

-Gyeon Booster: flashed so quickly that application was spotty...Looked terrible when I had condensation on the car

-CarPro Reload: streaky at any concentration

-Wolf Jeweler polish: terrible imho.

Griots polishes 1-4: the original pre-BOSS polishes. Didn't work well for me.

Nanoskin Rain Plus System: meh.

PBLDPC: ask Klasse Act ;)

Others, I'm sure.

What I'm liking now:

Gyeon, PA, Menzerna and Wolfgang.

CG Diablo Gel (While it works for light cleaning, it's waaaay overpriced) I bought a gallon of it too. So will use it somehow eventually lol.
CG Signature Glass Cleaner (I only got a small bottle, but it's a okay glass cleaner, nothing special.) I'll use up what I have but I won't be buying more of it.
CG Trim Gel (This stuff is just super geasy to work with, and always runs off the trim onto the side of the paint leaving an oil residue when it rains) The plastic stays protected, but it just ruins the finish on my paint. So I have to clean it every time, because it looks terrible. (I got almost a full bottle of it. No idea if I will go through it or not lol)
Salt Remover (Not sure who makes it, but it sucks. Doesn't do anything remotely close to removing salt stains. Terrible product (It was suggested to me by my best friend, maybe I should disown his ass) lol
CG V32 (Only because I have no use for it right now lol.) I've used 34,36, and 38 and I like them. They work well.
CG Butter Wet Wax, (While I do like it for cleaning stains, it works really well for that, and any glue from like removing stickers.) It's not that interesting as a wax. I have about half a bottle left, probably won't buy more.

May seem like I am bashing CG, but I have a lot of their products most of which I like. :)

Send me that trim gel! Lol
I agree with most of the rest, their Glass cleaners are not good at all. And diablo wheel gel is quite overpriced, their blue wheel cleaner is what i use and it seems to work pretty good for a liquid style rim cleaner.

CG Glassworkz
CG Signature Glass Cleaner
CG V34, i don't understand the point of it, if it doesnt finish like a polish
Back To Black(the HD trim cleaner isnt bad)
CG InstaWax, it left overspray spots everywhere and its kinda pricey
FlyBy30 from CarPro
CG Diablo wheel gel, just because of price compared to results
CG 50/50 paste wax, just because i never use wax
Cheap "boars hair" brushes from Oreillys
Cheap MF towels, lint everywhere
CG wash n' wax, it somehow "ate" through the bottle and leaked out onto the floor
CG citrus wash n gloss

By no means a CG hater, thats just 90% of what i have coming from a beginner with parts store chemicals. Love V7 wash and spray sealant, jetseal, wonder wash, clean slate, V36 and V32, trim gel

Hmm, are you talking about Extreme Body Wash & Synthetic Wax leaked? That stuff makes my car look great.

Agree on their polishes and glass cleaner.

I like InstaWax, I use it for quick waxes for customers.

My biggest regret is purchasing Chemical Guys polishes but not a big deal really. I regret purchasing so MUCH stuff! Do I really need 10 different shampoos?

It was the other yellow wash n' wax, without the visible carnauba in it.

-CarPro Reload: streaky at any concentration

I've been using Reload for the last couple of years with mostly great results. When CarPro had all the "bad batch" issues I struggled through the rest of the streaky batch and pretty much just stopped using it on black cars. I didn't re-order for probably 6 months until I started hearing that they had reformulated it again based on feedback to solve the streaking issues. I feel that with the newest reformulation they absolutely nailed it. Works just like the original formula now. Couldn't be easier to apply, even in cold weather it still flashes off to a streak free shine. I would say it's ALMOST as easy to apply now as something like Meg's D156 and the gloss is out of this world!

Good to hear, Nicholas.

I might revisit it at some point in the future, but for now, I have a lot of Gyeon Cure, Rupes and Wolfgang sealant sprays -- plus Wet Coat and HydO2.

Eventually, I'll need to get something again.

How are you liking Gyeon stuff? I really like my Reload/Hydro2/Echo2. Wanna give their stuff a try.

I like the Gyeon line (whether they are very similar to CarPro or not - TAC Systems). I have found Wet Coat to be better in application than HydrO2 -- at least in terms of streaking. Perhaps Wet Coat is similar to HydrO2 Lite, but I have never used HydrO2 Lite per se.

The Gyeon products that have impressed me:
Mohs
Wet Coat
Bathe+
Tire
Iron
Foam
Fabric Coat
Bug & Grime
Smoothie

The Gyeon products that I think are so-so
Cure
Tar

The Gyeon products that have not impressed me:
Prep
Water Spot
Booster
Antifog

Used but haven't had time to fully eval (Initially good)
Trim
View

Haven't used:
Leather Coat
Rim
Can Coat
Prime
Clay Lube

Looking forward to trying Preserve if AG or autopia carry it soon. Some other new things coming out too.

Gyeon Antifog works very well on glasses and goggles.

I don't regret purchases so much.
I look at it as product testing and direct experience with a product.
There are always products that will impress you and disappoint you.

One of the most disappointing detailing products I have ever purchased is FOLEX.

Product Review:
Folex Carpet Cleaner

Price: $15.28
8.38 cents per gallon

Advertisement:
- Instant spot remover.
- The solution to your stain.
- Excellent for walls, woodwork, and upholstery.
- No rinsing.

Preliminary:
Folex is a product that gets mentioned and recommended from time to time in the detail community.
Some detailers swear by it, others just recommend it as something to have in your inventory.

Pros:
- Price per ounce.
- Available in gallon size.
- Dilution ratios.
- Neutral scent.
- Useful for machines such as extractors and steamers.
- Water based.
- Universally available at most hardware stores.

Cons:
- Poor performance as carpet cleaner.
- Poor performance as upholstery cleaner.
- Lots of product and labor to get this product to perform.

Recommend for detailing?
No!

Summary:
This product has been a total dud for me.
Have used it:
- On carpet, upholstery, and headliners, and the carpet inside my house.
- In conjunction with steam and extraction.
- Multiple specs of microfiber towels.
- Multiple types of scrub brushes.
- Multiple dilution ratios mixing with distilled water only.
This product is simply a fail in my experience.
On a scale of 1 - 10, I would give it a 2, because it is technically better than using just plain water.

I can't help but find this funny... Why? Because yea, it works like crap when scrubbed with a brush. Works like crap when tried with a steamer... However, if used as directed it works absolutely amazing. This is the easiest carpet and upholstery cleaner I've ever seen, but you must follow the directions on this bottle in order to achieve the results. Spray, rub with finger, wipe away. It cannot get any easier than that.... Yet there's countless posts complaining about how Folex doesn't work no matter how many times they've scrubbed. SMH.

Bissell SpotClean ProHeat. I was under the impression that it was an updated version of the Little Green, not so. It does not have a water heater regardless of the 'ProHeat' label, it just blows the lukewarm air from the vacuum motor onto the side of the water tank.

To vanev what carpet cleaner do you like ?

I have been very impressed by Meguiars Interior Detail Products.
D106 Fiber Rinse and Tannin Stain Remover and D116 Protein Stain Remover are the best I have used to date for cleaning, especially with steamers and extractors.
They are exactly what I look for in regards to interior cleaning for carpet and upholstery.
Clear in color, unscented, can be diluted way down, and can clean any dirt and stain.

Meguiars D102 Foam Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner is a great way to finish as an LSP in tandem with the above products, or use by itself for light cleaning and maintenance details.
Has the best, freshest scent of any foam cleaner that I have used and I think it is perfect in that regards.

Griot's Garage Interior cleaner is probably the best all around interior cleaner, as it can not only clean, but leaves a great finish on panels, the dash, console, etc...

For tough stains, such as heavy grease and mud, stains you think might be impossible to remove, there is none better than Rapid Remover.
This product is expensive, but I have yet to meet a stain it can't remove, especially with a steamer, extraction, or Tornador.
This product will always have a permanent spot in the detail inventory.
It is awesome, and smells great too.

carrand brush & shine tire dressing applicators - used these and do not care for them, they don't push the tire dressing into the tire and evenly distribute it as well...

Mine would be Klasse vinyl, leather, rubber, and plastic cleaner/protector.

Besides the high cost, it didn't impress me at trim cleaning/coating, and didn't last a week.

It's not too bad as a tire dressing, so I'm trying to use it up as just that.

Luckily, the wife's Wrangler has 5 big tires to dress, so it'll be gone soon. Lol

Klasse AIO, Klasse Sealer. Absolutely the worst, most over-rated product ever. Does not come off easily and is just not very impressive. These two products are the most underwhelming, unimpressive products I have ever used. I have two friends who agree completely with this assessment.
