my brothers 94 viper

Maybe the defect is the loose nut behind the wheel. It is a shame to see such a nice car wrecked. Glad he will be around to tell about it.

Glad your friend made it out alive.
i dont have any personal expierence driving vipers but i have heard in the past that the suspension is not up to par with the power ther have and once they get lose there is no getting them back
Suspension from the factory is about the best of any car to come from a manufacturer, fully adjustable, believe me it can handle more than enough power. Problem is the people who don't know how to drive or handle one as their used to car that does almost everything for you with electronics, its a raw street legal race car. One little mistake or move and it will bite your ass, just like a full fledge race car. Damn near all Viper crashes I've seen are from ones who do not have the skill to handle. The geometry on the 1st gens (like in this thread) was more brutal than latter versions, it was like driving a modern A/C Cobra.
work for a fire department and have seen one wrapped around a pole and another in the front of a house. The one in the house was bought that day and he had his six year old in the front seat. Apparently there needs to be a recall on Vipers to fix the steering defect!!!
There is no steering defect. Again its b/c quite a few buyers don't know how to drive this car. Driving a Vette is like driving a Lexus in comparison, or other cars. There are no devices for traction control besides your foot, no anti yaw this or that etc. That 1st gen in the pic didn't even have abs, abs wasn't brought around till 01' towards the end of the 2nd gen run.

I've got plenty of time tracking Vipers on road courses, no such thing as a steering defect.

i dont know how the suspension was adjusted and like i said i have never driven a viper the suspensionnot being able to handle the power was just what i have heard. and i have been to the track with this friend of my brother and have seen him pull off numerous sub 10 second runs. fastest being like 9.20. so i knew and so did my brother knew his friend could handle the power. he was released from hospital today and my brother was back on ebay looking for another viper

1st gen is the rawest and the suspension geometry had some quirks that were fixed in the Gen II. Pedals in the Gen 1 and II are offset to the left also which makes it a little awkward for 1st time drivers. But how did his foot get stuck under the clutch pedal? I never had that happen. My 01' ACR had about 530 rwhp n/a, Moton Suspension blah blah. F'n miss it and can't wait to get in another, the 08's are insane, their on another level. Anything can happen on the street though, but thats why you have to be real careful with these cars driving hard on the street as anything happens the car leaves it up to your skills to control since theres no anti-save your butt gizmos lol. Take the brakes, before 01' there was no abs, and lot of crashes were b/c people didn't know how to drive a non-abs car and how to pump the brakes correctly. Even Clarkson said it best, car has incredible capabilities, but problem is usually when something happens (like losing control) your usually going very fast in this car when it does = scary.

I remember a guy down here that was at a meet and wanted to buy one, but just didn't seem like a "driver". Sure enough went and bought a red SRT-10, left the dealership, and totaled the car about half mile down the road.

There's a saying with motorcycles. I'll give you the slightly cleaner version.

Letting your buddy ride your motorcycle is like letting him wear your underwear. You just don't do it.

Glad he's relatively ok though, hope his insurance covers enough for a replacement.

Sorry I didn't put a little smiley face at the end of my facetious comment about the "steering defect" inherent to Vipers. We all know what the obvious defect is.....
