My Car!

cutting compound and wool pad no more than 1200rpm. depends on aggressiveness of compound. like i said before we all had to learn somehow. i was taught on a rotary and was told to crank up the speed on it too. but after using it i found alot less possibilties for problems to arise if used at no more than 1500rpm's. i had one guy working for me that wanted to get cars done A.S.A.P. and actually did go upto the 3000rpm's. when i heard it rev up i throw a bottle of wax at him to get his attention then fired him.

wax/polish= people think they are same thing. as we ll know they are not. i have even gone to dealerships with friends and family when they buy cars to make sure the car is in good shape and the detail is done right. i have asked if the car is gonna get polished and was told yes. then when i asked if they were gonna wax it the guy cleaning the cars said i alrady told you yes. i had to explain to him the difference between wax and polish. supposely he had been working there for 5 years and did not know the difference. so i was just making sure you were aware of the difference.

PC= you cant hurry perfection. yes the PC takes alot longer but is alot safer. and unless you have major correction to do a PC will work fine.

QUOTE::: now if i am suppopst to be opperating the buffer at a speed between 1000 and 1500 rpm for polishing, then what is the speed between 1500 and 3000 rpm's used for (i mean its not there just to be there...there must be a reason for the high rpm speed)

sanding........

Love Domestic, 21.3 jobs per hundred cars sold 11 for foreign. Lexus no jobs or Accura. Nice car!

thanks for the comments everyone!

i love this car too...its so AMAZING!

detailgod...if i turn down the rpm's on the buffer to 1200 for cutting and 1500 for polishing, does this mean i will have to spend a little more time working on it b/c its not going to heat up as quickly?

i hear ya about going to dealerships with family and friends looking over the cars...i do the same thing for my family and friends (although i didn't even bother with my honda b/c i was doing it over myself anyway!)

i know that wax and polish aren't the same but in all honesty i dont truely know/understand what polish does...i know that wax is a sealent/protectant...if you could further elaborate on polishes i would greatly appriciate that!

i have been doing a little reading and i have a question...

i want to detail my car soon...im figuring wash, clay, polish, wax...

what i was wondering is i have seem poeple talking about putting multiple coats of wax on there cars...what does this do? and is it really going through and putting on 1 coat, then taking it off and then doing it all over again? whats the benefit?

also, what is a good paint cleaner (something that preps the car and takes off the old wax i guess)...

Thanks!

Polishes are abrasives that are meant to take out blemishes, swirls, etc. THat's as much as I know when it comes to finding the difference between polish and wax/sealants. As far as I know, DuraGloss names their sealants "polishes", such as their 105 called "Total Performance Polish" Duragloss Total Performance Polish (TPP) #105 .

Applying multiple layers of wax requires a cure time between coats, unless ur applying wax again just to ensure coverage. I let 24 hours pass n then I apply the 2nd coat. Sometimes I'll just wait till the next week when I wash again. Some benefits may include more durability, better looks, etc. I don't know the maximum amount of coats to put on before you're actually wasting product. I'd just do 2 or 3 and stop there.

As for paint cleaner, all I've used is P21S Paint Cleanser. It leaves a nice slick finish (to me it feels like I just waxed), and it takes off the old wax.

Try the 2 bucket wash system...it will cut down on swirls......

hehe thats the only technique i ever use. i was just implying that the more often you wash the car the more often you expose yourself to the chance of scratching paint.

Nice looking car........to be honest with the name RoadRunner I was hoping to see a 68-70 Plymouth Road Runner :-/

on sat. i had a detail at work...an SC430...very nice car and for the most part it was fairly clean, but it had some swirls and very fine scratches...

so i brought out the rotary and listening to your replys, i put the speed on at 1500...i put on a green pad which is light cut and polish and used a combination of 2 polishes that someone mixed together...(cant remeber at the moment what two they were)...

anyway when i started up it felt so so slow...going from feeling very comfortable at 2200 to 1500 for polishing is a major difference and i'll be honest guys i didn't feel like i was taking anything out...on the other hand i definetly felt more comportable around difficult areas (rearview mirrors, windshield washer sprayers)...

i was getting so frustrated with the speed that i cranked it back up to 2200 and my buddy kept it at 1500...i cant say i notice any real differences so thats good!

the car looked amazing...i wish i had a camera on me!

but i will give it another shot when i get my next detail!

on a side not i wanted to ask you guys a question...this is a rumor i've heard...if someone buffs/polishes a car and doesn't do a good job, leaving swirls and scratches does that mean that they will never be able to come out anytime after b/c the person that did it b4 you didn't do a good job?

thanks!

In the hands of a pro.......it can be brought back usually to a nice finish

Yes. Those are buffer trails and minor swirls/scratches left from not finishing down the compound properly. USUALLY it's an easy fix, depending on the type of car, etc.

I am the proud owner of an 07' Fiji Blue Pearl Honda Civic Si! I absolutely love this car! So much so, that i wash it about twice a week and i have waxed it probably around 4 times in the 3 months i have owned it.

First of all, are there any negatives aspects i need to be aware of with washing and waxing my car so much...honestly i dont thing i am going to wash my car any less but what the heck i might as well ask.

Second, i have the minor scratches that i believe are from the over washing...haha...not swirl marks...just very fine scratches. I am positive that they will come off with a green pad which is for fine scratches and polish. I was suggested from a fellow detailer that to keep my cars paint in perfect condition, i should polish it ever 3 months or so...

So what do you guys think...Whats doing to be the best for my car!?!

Also, from what i have learned my honda paint is fairly thin...true or false...what speed should i get the buffer for a good polish? work has the dewalt buffer so i think it goes up to 3000...i generally polish around 2200...

Thanks! Pics to come tomorrow!

I have the same car as you but my si is a 2006 and its alabastor silver metallic...yeah dude i love my car as well...have you done anything to it so far?

anyway here are a few pics of my reflections...im going to try and get a few of the pearl (the glitter look haha)...

the first pic is of my little bro's quad (and the garage) that is almost 6 ft. away from my car...

the second is of my hood...

That really depends on your experience and products you choose. I would slap some Souveran or spray Souveran on there instead. Unless you have lots of flakes, I would use SSII, which it doesn't appear. That's a very nice blue, and there's lots you can do with that. I have crappy ole boring white.. but it's a dream to drive. :awesome:
