My detailing shelf exploded...

If you were here in New Jersey they would of probably arrested you for illegal fireworks and they would make you out as a terrorist. And the insurance company would denied coverage because of illegal activity. Glad it wasn't that bad for you.:buffing:

We weren't shooting off anything big or crazy though. Just little cheap fountains and things like that. Although here in MO we are allowed to use the big stuff (mortars, etc.) But that stuff is expensive.

Sorry for your loss - glad nobody was hurt.

Happy July 4th!

Haha; thanks Swanci!

Okay here's some daytime aftermath.

I lost most of my microfiber towels; but here's a fresh clump of melted-together towels that I haven't even used yet! I literally took them out of the box yesterday;

My Griot's Garage polisher. Think they'll warrantee it? Hehehe.

Cars need a bath...

I actually think I can save that (brand new, unopened) bottle of Griots Garage car wash and get the cars cleaned. I have a wash mitt that was in the washing machine, my buckets and hose are okay. No foam sprayer or anything but that's okay I guess. Better than nothing. Drying is going to be an issue but waterspots are better than ash-spots!

So it looks like I'm out:

Foam cannon (hose-end type, cheapie); can't even find that.

Microfiber towels; most of them. Some didn't burn but are caked in ash and I doubt will ever be useable again

My GG 6" Polisher

Most of my polishes/chemicals, and a few pads. Most of my pads survived though; they were on the top of the shelf and fell clear of the fire.

I can't even find the bottle of DP paint sealant; I think it's part of the big black plastic puddle in my garage. Luckily the Focus has a coating, and the Mustang has a fresh layer of DP paint sealant. It's going to get coated too once I correct it. Was going to do that this weekend. Guess not!

two or three of my small bottles survived, some ONR survived, etc.

So all in all, not bad. Not worth bothering the insurance company. But a huge royal pain nonetheless. Think I'm gonna wash the cars and then dry them with the leaf blower and call it done. No QD spray or microfiber towels to dry with. Oh well; they look terrible right now! I'm probably gonna have to drill a hole in the bottle of GG car wash to get it open! lol!

Also still so annoyed that all these bottles of armor-all junk are laying all over my garage, mocking me. Like "haha, we're all that you've got left!". I dunno why I even keep that crap except to have it on the shelf when relatives come over so I don't feel bad about not using the stuff they get me (Every. single. Christmas.)

Wow! I am glad you guys are ok and i always look at things like this in the tone of "it could be worse". I know it's bad to lose all of that detailing equipment and product but they're just things in the overall scheme of life. Again, i'm happy to hear you and the missus are fine otherwise.

Toss me onto the more than willing donation team! Would be happy to send you some products i have laying around that are certainly WELL in excess of what i need. Would love to help out a detailing brotha from AGO!

WOW! Glad you and your wife are OK. I showed this thread to my wife and she just looked at me and said "See, you should not be messing with fireworks." I had a friend years ago badly burned by fireworks at a fourth of July party. She keeps telling me to stop.

On another note, just say what I always do, "Things happen for a reason. He has a plan for us." Being a Pastor you already know that. I am confident you will have everything cleaned up and taken care of by the end of the weekend.

Well at least she didn't say "see, you shouldn't have all that detailing crap!"

Thanks guys. My neighbor came over at 7 this morning and we've Ben scraping and sanding and gutting and painting. It's great to have good neighbors. Repainting the entire garage and replacing/repairing some of the drywall (smoke damage). Repainted doors, etc. phew!

Guys I just want to thank you all for the generosity. We've gotten a lot done as far as repairing the garage. Boy neighbors are great! At 7 this morning my neighbors came over and started helping clean; we worked without a break until about 5:30. Most of the garage is now fixed. Installing new steps (they burned up) tomorrow, finishing up repainting (had to scrub and sand all of the walls because of smoke damage; and we're repainting the entire garage). Phew! Lots of work; but with good help it goes by quick.

Here's a couple pics of the progress;

Okay; so here's a question for those following the thread. This crap is stuck on the car. Not sure what it is but I assume it's splatter from various burning chemicals and stuff. It's stuck on pretty good. Suggestions on how to tackle it?

Finally, thank you so much for the generosity in this thread. But the last thing I want to do is impose. Maybe down the road if any of you have an old DA polisher you're wanting to sell a few weeks from now hit me up! But I just couldn't intrude and ask you all to send me stuff. I'll make an order or two here soon. Besides the main things I need are things like microfiber towels and brushes and the like; and no detailer in their right mind would give those up! ha!

It warms my heart that you all would be that considerate though. Now if any of you were in the area and wanted to use some of your products on my perilously dirty cars that would be an offer I couldn't refuse! Ha!

In all seriousness though; if any of you have extra, collecting dust, would throw it away otherwise products that would help me clean these cars up (APC, convertible top products, an old detailing brush; anything); and you really truly would never use it; shoot me a PM. Lots of ash and soot in all sorts of nooks and crannies of these cars; it's gonna take a little work and the right tools to get them clean again. I actually do have car wash soap. My griots garage car wash bottle that melted and fused into the detailing shelf was never 'pierced' so the soap inside is fine. Used it today actually. Got a good chunk of the ash off of the paint. Will wash again once I've got some MF towels, etc.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the support!

Sorry for your loss. My neighbors let off a bunch of fireworks tonight and now all of our cars have ashes all over the paint.

Man on one hand this really sucks but on the other hand you, your family and your house are alright, hope you get the stuff cleaned up, I wish I had some extra detailing stuff laying around to help you out, I don't know if it's in this thread or not but where are you located?

That really is crazy. I wonder what actually exploded. You really are very lucky that this didn't later in the night while you were sleeping.
If you have a costco by you I would pick up some of there bulk microfiber towels for now, they are pretty good for what there are.

If you were going to make a insurance claim I would let them your Zymol Solaris Glaze was burnt beyond all recognition.

My heart goes out to ya pal. Glad you and your family and your cars are ok.

I agree - can you go through everything that was in there and identify anything particularly flammable? I am quite surprised that there is anything which would go up that impressively. Most of the products we have which would be flammable would still take a lot of effort to get to burn if they were sealed in a bottle. The only exception would really be some tyre dressings but I thought those would be hard to come by in the US, with all your VOC regs.

It is worth trying to work it out because anything that is that flammable really should be kept outside or sealed in a fire-resistant container.

Would you be interested in a unused tub of Max Wax from Detailers Pro series? I have over 50 different paste waxes and that's the one that I some how ended up with doubles. I can also send a bottle of Chemical Guys Nonsense and Green Clean.

I bet the fire started with the microfibers and spread from there.

Wow Pastor...
Did a Fire Marshal, Inspector do the investigation? In our department, we have a seperate division that takes care of that part of the fire scene.
It really is its own "beast.". In your first picture above that would "appear" that the burn pattern could be near the origin of the fire.
BTW...if you used a dry chem extingusher just be aware that the product is caustic, which you probably know.
Just thankful God was watching over you.
