My new (to me) project car

Just finished the passenger side of the car . With 3 kids, the time I get to spend is limited but it stays in its own side of the garage so i get to keep it pretty clean. Turned out great. I switched products tonight and gave HD SPEED a try and was very pleased. Seemed to go on and do work quicker and cleaner than my other product I was using. Attached are some pics! Next up I’m going to “restore” the glass and put a coating on it and restore the head lights!

Nice work. Surprised the seats came out as well as they did.

Man me and you both. I would have sworn they were going to have to be refinished. So glad that wasn’t the case!

Nice job. Surely once you get all the kinks worked out that car is going to be a blast to drive.

I agree. It’s a blast now to drive but you can tell it needs a good tune and service. Chokes up a little bit I’m sure due to old gas and what not. Once all filters and fluids get changed and a dyno tune is complete, I’m sure the speeding tickets will pour in lol.

Great polishing outcome!

It's a time consuming work detailing. And more so for us that don't do it so often. The time to dial in takes a little time but when that done it's fun to work it through. It's not so rare to do a couple of panels at the time done and then drive the car between. When haveing a garage place for the car to sit in take your time and do it thoroughly. The outcome is worth it in the end.

Funny you say that, I have made it my goal for it to not come out until I’m finished and so far I’ve stuck with that! Helps that it rains all the time right now!! Lol

Cool project car! Great work that you are putting into! In for updates!

Next up I will be using my McKees 37 headlight kit I bought and try to bring a little life into them. They aren’t terrible but have a lot of small micro cracks. These headlights are known for being bad at oxidizing and what not. I also bought a glass kit to get all the water spots out and coat the glass to protect it. I found out last night the struts that hold the hatch up are shot. I’ll order some of those today so i can detail the back hatch. Haven’t done that either. The jambs and plastics. Having a blast with this one even though it’s going way slower than I expected but life keeps interfering lol!

Just got done with the headlights and I am fairly impressed. They have several micro cracks inside the lense that obviously won’t come out but the are still way nicer than before. I had a time getting that gunk off of them. Not sure if it was Tar or sap but it was BAD. Any who, here are some before and afters. I’ll probably buy new ones one day but for now, these are more than adequate and with the xzenon bulbs, they are BRIGHT. On the downside of all of this, the freaking battery was dead. I can’t wait to fix the parasitic drain that’s killing it every 2 weeks. It’s getting old!

Awesome work. It's looking new again.

I noticed you mentioned running out of pads. I came across one of Mike's articles/videos of "cleaning on the fly" that might help. I am really curious how far a pad can go using that method before it needs cleaning. How to clean your foam pad on the fly

I also have kids and especially during the ages 0-4, I had a very hard time getting time in the garage. As they've gotten older, I've been able to find more time for myself, but there are still activities like sports and other programs that keep me out of the garage. As my son turned age 5, I started involving him more and now that he's 7 going on 8, I take him to the garage any chance I get. He has helped me drill and tap holes, bend and flare brake lines, bleed brakes, install wheels, drain differentials, and I've even got him out there MIG welding on scrap. My daughter (who is a bit younger at age 4 going on 5) also helps in the garage with simple tasks like threading on lug nuts and assembling parts. If your kids are old enough, maybe they can help you detail the car a bit?
