Recommended to be done at least once every two weeks. to keep your vehicle in top shape and to keep air born contaminates from bonding to your paint surface. Also to assure the removal of anything that can cause etching in the paint.

"this is just ahobby of mine i copied this off a flyer i had made for ppl on block asking what i do / charge so i made it up so i can just hand them that and they'll know lol. i just wana check if the rates are good. i dont wana be charging to much but i def dont wana waste my time. so i broke it down cost vs man hours and found a happy medium . and like i said its for people on my block hense why i had the disclaimer (cause i dont want them to think i can remove everything so im doing it as a safty thing) .

If anything your prices are on the cheap side. For your basic detail I would charge $90-$100 Thats just me and my target customers

I'd suggest bumping your basic detail price up to $100 and be sure to note that these are starting prices only. The larger the vehicle is the more the price should go up. Double your prices for completely trashed vehicles.

This is too hard of work to be giving away. I suggest that you lock your neighbors in at the same price as anyone else. What does it matter if they live close to you? Would they work this hard for you at deeply reduced prices?

Just my 2 cents.

If you're comfortable with the prices & they are willing to pay it, go for it. Keep in mind that if you get any referrals from these jobs the referrals will expect the same pricing.

This amount of work will take you a MINIMUM of 3 full hours and you're hustling AND it must be done correctly, no short cuts!

  • Product
  • Machines
  • Pads
  • Towels
  • Electricity
  • Water
Once you subtract everything you "might" be looking at $10 - $12 / hour in your pocket

Realistic Price - $115 - $125

OK if you're using a 1-step product similar to Meguiar's D151

For the Ultimate Detail you're generally looking at 8 to 10 hours of hard work. You should be pocketing at least $20 / hour after expenses.

I would NOT recommend charging your neighbors differently than someone you don't know. Family you can get away with however variations in pricing will get around and tarnish your reputation early on.

If you want to charge a reduced rate to establish a customer base put a time limit on this price and once it ends it ends...

I agree with BobbyG.

However, if you're just doing this for a few people, not undercutting someone doing it for a living, and are happy with it, go for it. Personally, I'd say $75 - $100 for the basic package is not out of line, depending on the economic conditions in your area.

thanks yall. and yeah sry for the "nabors" in the thread title boss walkd in as i was posting so was in a rush.

yeah the basic detail i was def having second thoughts. and as far as the swirl removal etc i plan on using #105 and #205 the majority of the time i have lighter products for applications that don't need the harder cut but that will be the majority of my work. thanks for the replys yall i wasnt sure if i shoulda made this thread cause ive seen others but i didnt wana thread jack no one :/ i re did the pricing and added some more info per yalls advice

and took the basic outta detail so its now

detail - 110
minor paint correction - 175
full paint correction / detail - 250
and i added on the flyer -

“all pricing is a basic start price. Some vehicles will require more work and more time than estimated. Fees maybe be reevaluated according to vehicle condition”

agree w/everyone else, i would def bump up the prices.

These are about the same rates I charge. I work in two towns... my hometown and the town I currently live in. When I work in my hometown, which is less than a quarter of the size of where I currently live, everybody tells me I need to raise my rates a lot. Where I currently live, about 3/4 of the people that talk to me about it say they're going to call around cause my rates seem high.

Your prices need to reflect Materials + Time x Labor = Price. You live in a "well off" county and people wouldn't mind paying a nice price for great quality. Id advise taking alot of features out of your lower packages. If you offer so much in a low package, there's no benefits to getting a higher one. Hope that helps! Im in Bowie.

yeah ive reworked prices and packages a lil sense i started this thread per yalls advice. and ehh i guess its a decent county "Montgomery" use to be anyways. bowie isn't terribly far from me i guess its about 40ish min ? :P thanks for the replys all :)

not to thread hijack......but in your one step (AIO) detail packages do you guys clean and dress the engine? or just pop the hood and wipe down the top of the fenders ?

So far I get the impression that you reside in an affluent neighborhood? If so: Good for you! Good for your "business".

I realize that you stated: "this is just a hobby of mine"......

But have you considered having some form of "business" insurance? "Mistakes" may happen. Perhaps one, possibly more, of your neighbors may be of the forgiving-type and spring for the repair/correction, if a "mistake" should occur. But imagine how quickly the WORD of this "correction process" will spread, unless you, or an insurance policy, pays for any and all "mistakes"...Just saying.

Really not really that far off the chart, even though there's a lot of neighborhoods where $1200/yr, for this service alone, would buy/assist in purchasing auto insurance, groceries, electric, heat for the home, clothing, etc.....

Yours may be different, though. And that's probably an asset. Because...

If you are dependent on your current salary to: Make-ends-meet/or-live-comfortably...Then,IMO...
You may have to re-consider, once again, re-evaluating your detailing-pricing-packages and start charging your neighbors up the ying-yang, if your boss ever decides to not be lax with work-place rules, if there are any, that is.
