Need advice on use of PC 7424XP

If 205 and an orange pad got you good results you should finish down with a white pad. Or better yet finish down with Menz 85rd and a grey or blue pad.
Do you think it would make that much of a difference? It left no maring and super high gloss. Of course that could be because the paint is in great condition and I was just happy the swirls were gone. I was really happy with the results. I'll probably use 85rd or 106fa next time with a white pad. I'm really intrigued by the 106fa. 2.5 cut and 5 gloss rating.

You can pull the car out into the sun instead if you don't have the BSFL

Mike, are you saying that the BSFL will reveal the same imperfections if any as the sun will?

I snagged my original quote with the correct quote tags and if you read what I wrote, it doesn't say what you wrote above.

My point was bright light will reveal swirls in car paint. That's pretty common knowledge actually. The Brinkman just makes it so you don't have to back your car in and out of the garage. Also, if it's cloudy, winter, or dark outside then the Sun doesn't do you much good.

Everyone can find their own way to look for swirls, I personally find the Brinkman the most convenient.

I just called Meguiars and they told me that 205 does have some cut.......he intimated that it's very comparable to UC.

Heres's the order,

Most aggressive to least aggressive -->

140_G17216_UltimateCompound.jpg
140_G10307_ScratchX2_0.jpg
140_G17616_SwirlX.jpg
150_M8332.jpg
170_M20532_UltraFinishPolish.jpg
G10307_ScratchX.jpg

AggressivnessLevel2.jpg

That would be from most to least aggressive,
  • M105 Ultra Cut Compound
  • Ultimate Compound
  • ScratchX 2.0
  • SwirlX
  • M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
  • M205 Ultra Finishing Polish - M80 Speed Glaze (Different types of abrasives but close in cut ability)
  • ScratchX (Current Version being discontinued)

Well, I actually just did. They way I did it was I worked out the worst imperfections on part of the hood by using ScratchX2.0 by hand. I also did the same thing on the driver and passenger doors. Then I used a white polishing pad with the PC on those same panels and applied a coat of Nxt Generation 2.0 wax. I'm very happy with the results on the hood and moderately happy with the result on the doors. I wish I had a camera to post pictures but I don't. The results aren't perfect but I understand not to expect perfection. Big improvement on all polished panels. But, it seems like I get a better result, with easier effort, on the hood. I polished all panels a couple of times and for some reason I just got better results on the hood. Is there a possible reason for that other than just perhaps doing a better job on the hood? Since SwirlX is more aggressive than 205 perhaps I should follow SwirlX with 205? What do you guys think? Anyhow, I want to thank everyone for their input! It's definitely much, much appreciated.

Yes, you can follow the swirlx with the 205. Since you used a white pad with the swirlx, go with the grey pad with the 205. You will get a better gloss following up the swirlx.

Thanks, I'll do that. I love this forum!!!!!!!

For as long as I have this Camaro, I'll be lurking on this site looking for new tips and tricks :xyxthumbs:

Since your paint is in good condition, no need for 106FA. Use 85rd for jeweling the paint for maximum gloss. 85rd has a cut of 1.5, remember least aggressive to save your clear, unless you like white spots.
