Hello, I'm posting this in the off topic section because I don't think it fits in any of the autogeek forum sections.

I have a coworker/friend who was a victim of a deliberate keying to their driver side door. Silver BMW X5 that is leased. I've done some basic paint correction with a orbital and M105/M205 type stuff and have had great success. However I've never had to fix something as bad as having your door keyed. And I don't feel comfortable doing what I feel needs to be done on someone else's car.

It is keyed deep in about a 5-6" section between the driver/passenger door and then much lighter (doesn't look like it is through clearcoat) for another 2'. I didn't have much time at work but passed over it with an orange pad on a GG 6" and some M105 that helped a bit on the lesser areas, but it clearly needs something stronger.

So I'm looking to recommend her to someone with more experience with this. I suspect it will need some touch up paint, maybe some wet sanding, and polishing.

I was surprised to find autogeek doesn't make a regional forum for people to seek out other experienced detailers. So I'm asking here. Looking for a good place to handle this reasonably for her in the PA/DE/NJ (Tri-State Area).

Thanks!

Why not turn it into the insurance company. Does your co-worker know what their comprehensive deductible is?

I mentioned that to her, but I don't know all the specifics about her insurance situation. Does having the car leased make a difference in this case. I've never been keyed or had a car on lease so really have no clue. Perhaps she is just concerned about her rates. I figure I'll give her some names of a few places that can take care of it and she can make the call.

If going through insurance I wonder if they would end up having a body shop repaint the doors.

check out ammonyc on youtube he has a video where he fixed key marks, by filling it 70% then but touch up paint on, then just leveled the paint by compound and polish. Easier said than done i know.

I would assume she has to carry full coverage including comprehensive which usually has a lower deductible than collision. If she has a low comp deductible she could file a claim and comp claims usually don't affect your rates. If she has a high deductible she may want to have somebody try to repair the damage as stated above. A body shop would usually repaint the door and tint and blend the surrounding panels.
