For what task? A steamer is better on hard surfaces, an extractor is better on carpet/upholstery.

It's pretty durable, but yes it can leave dark/light spots if you spray too thick in one spot. The key is to use light coats over the affected areas until coverage is achieved.

An extractor will only suck moisture out of carpets and fabric seats..whereas a steamer can clean carpets, seats, engines, door jams, wheels, grout, etc. and it sanitizes. It would be nice to have both, but if you only had one choice, it's a no brainer.:buffing:
