Need help starting

Yeah working in the cold suck. I wished we can have a couple days of 50ish degrees, but that will prob not happen. I'm going check Wal-Mart they had some stuff for RV by the auto section going check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

This was Meguair's white clay. Now it grayish. Used for 2-3 cars, can I use this today? Or need to use a new one?

Even though QEW's website does list some WalMart locations as distributors, they never have it. Good luck tonight.

Have you dropped it on the ground at all or better question would be have you introduced it to any foreign gritty materials? If you've only used it on a few cars and it hasn't hit the ground it should be fine. Just make sure you knead it between sections to start again with a clean piece. If you drop it you'd better throw it out. Rubbing driveway gravel across paint is a big no no.

I kneed it today and tried to get out any little grit I found. I dropped it once. But removed everything from that part of the clay.

If I bring it to a car touch less wash. And come back with very diluted Meguiar's soap in a spray bottle would that work?

I won't suggest that you use it then. Dropping clay on the ground can be very expensive but not near as expensive as repainting someones car because the stones that may be in dropped clay scratched the paint beyond repair. The responsible thing to do is to get new clay and use small amounts of the bar at a time so if you do drop it you don't have to throw $20 in the trash each time it happens.

Just got all these yesterday! I tried the 5.5 inch flats and they seem to produce a lot more heat then the Kompresser I had. I have a feeling that results will be amazing with 5.5 inch pads compared to the 6.5 inch ones.

I seem to see some stones in these 2 pictures, I wouldn't use it.

Your right going play it safe and use a new one, don't want to put more scratches on the car. Going try to post pics up tonight.

I would throw that in a container labeled "Bad Clay" and use it for doing the barrels of the back side of wheels if you get involved in doing that level of detailing.

Just to note, I met Cosmin a few years ago when he attended one of my classes and since then he's really made a great reputation for himself and is making really good money.

So when he gives you some advice do take it to heart...

:)
I have talked to Cosmin too and he is a great guy! I am starting also small detailing biz.. and soon will post my results. So far I did 3 cars with my PC7424XP and 3 cars with Makita 7229 .I charged 120 for car wash,3 step paint correction ,vacuum, interior dressing, tire dres, rim polish,Glass polish(Glare Pro Polish),trim rest(BlackWOW-AG) All that took me around 6 hours. Soon I will have my own web site .

:whs: lol. Going grab some food then work on this car. Will post pics when I get back.

get yourself a website , post your work there , so people have an idea of what they pay for.

if u sell yourself short , they will know u as 75 $ detail guy , good luck to beat that later!

time is money so ... if takes u 5 hours to do a job u charge for 6 :dblthumb2:

He is 100% right get yourself a website you can make your own on go daddy or word press pretty cheap. Post before and after pictures, and list the process that you did on each vehicle. Make a servie page you can look at mine on my site if you want some ideas. Also you can make yourself a facebook page for your business for free. You can also make yourself some business card and place them in businesses in your area.

Next when you get a phone call or an email about someone wanted to get there vehicle detailed make sure you inform them on the processes and products you use. Teach your clients what detailing is all about.

Now would you want to do 3 cars a day for $225 (at $75 a vehicle) or one vehicle at $225?

For every 10 phone calls (new clients) I get I will land about 1-2 jobs. Now for the other 8 people that called they want the cheapest detail possible, but want it to look like a full correction. From experience you dont want to deal with these clients, you want clients that take pride in there vehilce and are willing to pay for the time an effort you put into there car. If you are taking your time and paying attention to detail you want to get paid for it.

Dont under charge for a job because if you get people reffering you to others they are going to mention the price they paid. This is bad because your going to get yourself stuck in a cycle of undercharging because everyone is going to be like well you did the same type of detail for him and it only cost him $75 why are you charging me $225

Which cleaner/wax would you suggest? I got 2 free sample bottle from Meguiar's kit, wanted to know if there was something better?

There's nothing wrong with the Meguiars cleaner wax :xyxthumbs:

Just go to the AG store and type D151 in the search box & it will take you right to it.
