Hey guys i need some help correcting 2007 Silver Civic..car is in decent condition.. this morning i washed, clayed and ironx the whole car..next step was to correct the paint remove swirl marks..First i tried Chemical guys VSS and Meguiars DA Foam Discs 5 in(Cutting pad) on griots DA on speed 5 slow movement and 6 to 7 passes..didnt do much removed minor swirls..only reason i chose VSS again because i corrected my 2012 CRV month ago and i was able to remove all the swirls..Next i tried Ultimate compound using different cutting pad same slow movement and 6 to 7 passes..still was not able to remove all the swirls..i polished the car using yellow polish foam disc and Sonax Perfect Finish 4/6

still didnt make much of the difference..for now i applied collinite 915 on whole car since its going to rain here tomorrow..so i would like to know is there any other compound/polish combo i should try..i m sure Meguiars DA Foam Disc is capable of correcting paint since they are marketing as cutting discs..i also have some Lake country flat pads but mostly polishing ones not the cutting one..

the product selection seems good. I would try a microfiber pad instead of a foam one. I think thats the best set up for correction work with a DA.

looks like megs sells two different types xtra cut and correcting..plus they also have their compound and polish..can i use ultimate compound and sonax with microfiber pads?

Is it factory paint or a respray? Most civics I have worked on have been fairly soft.

it has been repainted on passenger side and whole front since i was in accident..but trunk, roof and driver side still has factory paint on it..i did test on trunk and hood with not much success..still bit tough to remove swirl marks with compound and cutting pads from megs..

Hmmm. Like other have suggested, maybe step up to MF disc and D300. Is UC the most aggressive compound you have?

yes for compounding that is the only one i bought..i was under the impression that i might not need it since i was able to remove most swirls using VSS on CRV but kept it handy in case i need to use it..any suggestion..thinking about trying griots compound along with their orange pad but assume it will yield same result..might have to try mf pads..

What kind of machine are you using?

If it's a PC style are you using pressure on the head of the machine?

Which cutting pad did you use with ultimate compound?

That's typically a good pad and liquid combo but it may be time to step up up to microfiber cutting pads.

On thing that could be a possibility is that the pad is leaving it's own defects behind if the paint is on the softer side.

forgot to mention i also tried yellow polish pad with compound still did not achieve swirl free finish..might get either different compound or microfiber pads..i might either try Menzerna Fast Gloss Compound, Fast Gloss 400, FG400 compound followed with Menzerna Nano Polish PO 106 FA, Menzerna Final Polish, Nano abrasives, finishing polish, professional polish or Griots Garage Complete Compound followed by Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3, Griots Garage Auto Polish, Griots car polish, swirl remover

it would be nice if i can skip the compound and just use machine polish 2 and machine polish 3..dont know which will work..

one more thing is it better to top collinite 915 with any other wax..will it give the car wetter look?

I think the wet is in the prep personally. I believe it comes from a fine cut polish and very few defects.

Did you spray anything on the collinite in the first 24 hours? The first time I did that it was a tad hazy.

after buffing i left it as it is..have not applied anything on it..

Part of the problem is silver is almost as bad as white when it comes to depth.

Have you washed it yet? If not try that, dry it, gloss enhancing detailer if you have some. See how it looks then.

I don't think you can obtain a great deep wet like darker colors.

Maybe try a different step prior to collinite next time. Such as Dg111

i also have this colored crv http://images.autosofasia.com/pictures/62647737.jpg which i applied 915..will applying any other wax over 915 on this color bring out more depth..care was prepped before i applied 915..wax i have in mind is megs M26 paste or ultimate paste wax i also happen to have some mothers liquid wax step 3 on hands..

915 is their beauty wax right? I don't own it. I own 845 & 885.

If anything a sealer then wax would be my choice. Some believe you can't layer wax and some do.

Try a panel. I always test the hood when looking at lsp because it sees the most wear by far. If i cant tell a difference I move on without going down that road.

I recently did hd speed and topped with Collinite 845 and the hd speed really brought out the flake. I believe that was the polish more than the hd poxy in it. I also ran the polish on a white pad with very little cut.

Try different processes and products till you get the look you want then lock it in. That car looks pretty good.
