So I purchased a new 2013 ATS Black :( back in January and Have been dying to get my hands on it. The car had all sorts of wash scratches all in it. Before this car I had a silver CTS and I always took it to the hand car washes to winter washing.. Boy I never realized how bad they beat up the finish as well. I took it back to the dealer to get the paint Corrected.... Now that was a funny discussion but it had some wax on it to protect it until I could get to it.

I was just planning on correcting the hood this weekend well 14 Hours later I was closing up the Garage for the night. Though it was not 100% corrected it is very close but I had no idea how hard back paint would be to correct!! I used the following..

DA Polisher
Wolfgang Swirl Remover - Orange CSS pad

Wolfgang Glaze - Black/Gray CSS Pad

Wolfgang Sealant - Red CSS Pad

Topper = Fuzion.

I will probably wash and put another coat of Fuzion on it this weekend..

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the dust down when using the Swirl Remover.. Man I swear that is the worst part :buffing:

I just saw a silver ATS the other day, looked nice. As far as the dust, use less product. And yes, GM paint is very hard, but fortunately we have very good products to use today. If it was me I would have probably started with a more aggressive polish on a MF pad, but I don't know what it looked like before you started, but it sure cleaned up nice, good job!

Looks great :xyxthumbs:

You could try misting the pad with a QD to reduce the dust. Some people even use a spray of water...

Nice job! Good reflections for sure. I see a lot of ATSs down here in south FL. A friend of my has one, the sports one and he challenged another friend of his on a brand new BMW 328i, guess who won?

That ATS is a BMW killer, for sure.. The 2.0 Turbo is amongst the highest HP per liter (2.7 HP/L) that GM has to offer and with a pretty well perfect 50/50 weight distribution and available Magnetic Ride Control those things are as nimble as a cat.. ;)

That's right! Now don't be surprise for the new soon to come CTS to come with the V spec version and beat M5 as well. Go Cadillac.

My guess is that the BMW driver didnt have it buried? The ATS does 0-60 just under 8 seconds and the 3 series does it just over 6.6....

Dont be so sure of yourself gentleman.

Now back on topic.

The ATS is a success for Caddy, great looking car and great job on the correction!

I was using a pad conditioner between sections but I think part if the problem was working to big of a section?? The ats has a bunch of curves so my pad was not exactly flat all the time. Could this cause the massive amount of dust?

As far as the zero to sixty on this. The 3.6 does it in like 5.7 seconds. Do you want to know how many times I have punched it to 60 off the line?? Maybe twice.. My days of racing like a 18 year old are way behind me. For me it was all about brand loyalty and style. I love GM and Love the Cadillac brand. The interior and que system was enough to win me over.. Plus I got a free iPad :)

First off I want to apologize for de-railing your thread.

As for a pad conditioner do you mean the liquid product or a pad conditioning brush? Your working section for compounding should be the size of a 24x24 microfiber at the largest. But ideally you want to be about shoulder length across. Also cut down on the amount of product that you are using between sections. So if you are using 4 drops of product cut it back to 3.

Honestly I am a GM guy at heart. I had a 68 Nova in High school and then a 99 S-10 Extreme. I moved on to BMW when I moved to Germany. (Military). I said to myself if im in Germany I want to drive a BMW. After I bought an older 3 series I was hooked.

I am really happy with how far GM is coming with their models. Have you heard about the new Z-28 Camaro?

The rumor is the ATS-V will have the twin turbo from the XTS (due out soon) and will have 420/470. There were also rumors of a V8 and if they stay away from the V8 I for one say good job Caddy, technology over brawn to achieve the same thing!

The new ATS is stunning and I spent 30 minutes in and out of the ATS at the Chicago auto show back in February. I came to the conclusion if I could afford one I'd get the 2.0L turbo, 6 spd and RWD. Thed color would be silver w/ red leather interior and those split 5 spoke 19's.

I love BMW's, my 2nd favorite car ever is an E46 M3 in Laguana Seca Blue w/ two-tone LSB/dark gray interior and proper 6 speed and adding the 19" comp pkg BBS wheels. That said, I'd take the new ATS spec'd out like I said over the current 3 series. Its going to be interesting to see the upcoming M3 w/ its tri-turbo set up, as well as the M4!

I use TSR all the time on my black BMW and get very little dust. Some dust is normal, but it shouldn't be a lot. Start by priming the pad and use 1 (1 only) spray of pad conditioner or detail spray. If you getting a lot of dust:

1. Your using to much product

2. Your working it too long

3. You environment is too hot.

I'm guessing its a combo of 1 & 2. The pad shouldn't be "dry" when your done. The center may be a bit gummy, but the outside of the pad shouldn't be dry. Also, face the pad down and brush it after each section pass, dust will fall to the ground.
