I haven't heard/seen anything about the next Mustang other than photo's but let's not dismiss the turbo'd 4 pot, 300 hp is VERY easy in that car and if the Ecoboost V6 fits in the new car, well, 400 hp is easy there too, noone said the V8 is going away in the Stang. The SVO (84-86) wasn't sucessful due to the engine not being so good and the fact that the "Merican attitude" was still in effect, trust me, many knuckle draggers didn't get but they're dying off like dinasours anyways, this is the future, let's embrace it! My buddy said Livernois Engineering back home in Dearborn MI has a 12 second Flex running around, so the power is there and the tuners are ready!

[RANT!]Not dismissing the power of smaller dispacement, FI'd motors! Lot's of high HP potential in these cars - take the S2000's 2.2L, for example. You can wring 400+ reliable HP out of those all day long. I just don't want US manufacturers to lose the heritage of the big iron, so to speak. Look at Europe - when's the last time you saw a new Ferarri or Lmbgni with a manual tranny? It's been quite some time, and even though the reason stems from performance, there's soemthing that will be forever lost if our cars become completely goverened by their ECUs (however tweakable).[/RANT!]
